Great Product [Posted on 2008-08-30] This LaCie drive is fantastic. It's my 2nd LaCie external hard disk (the other is full with home video). I've had the first one for 4 years and could not be more satisfied. A very stable product with no problems and very easy to use. I use them both for Mac and PC and the variety of connectivity is perfect. I've also just purchased a rack to mount both of them in. In all, a great looking and functioning product that is well worth the slightly higher price.
Great Product [Posted on 2008-09-06] Purchased LaCie Quadra 750 one month ago. Running LaCie on 3 year old Dell Dimension Desktop with Windows XP. Works great to date. Very solid construction, quiet operation on my desk, runs cool. Ability to interconnect with my other hard drives to speed up file transfer is a great feature. I'm replacing all of my older hard drives one by one with LaCie Quadra's because of my experience with this first purchase.
I know LaCie can do better than this... [Posted on 2008-09-11] Based on the other reviews, I feel really unlucky. I am sending in my 2nd drive tomorrow. The 1st replacement was worse than the original drive. Both made loud clicking sounds when going into sleep mode, but the 2nd one also made a strange buzzing sound just before the click. LaCie said it could be a sign of imminent drive failure. I have to send it into LaCie because Amazon won't do a replacement twice. I hope the 3rd time's the charm...
Solid drive (excellent except for the software) [Posted on 2008-09-14] The drive is solid, quiet, and attractive enough -- not as nice as the LaCie brick, which I loved until it broke this summer. It runs quietly, and is reliable, but the install was a mess. In the end, I just didn't use the software. The interface is dumbed down and doesn't give you all the install options.
I bought the drive in part for the backup software, which I have not been able to install. The drive has worked well since I reformatted it and used the OSX disk utility to format it correctly. The "exchange" feature is another let down.
Excellent Drive [Posted on 2008-09-29] I had been using this drive for over a month now as a backup drive on my iMac (using Time machine). It is an excellent drive with no noise and fast speed through Firewire 800 port. This drive is compatible with both mac and PC.
