It works [Posted on 2008-06-15] This drive works great on my MacBook Pro and is super fast via FW800, however gets almost too hot to touch when using that method. I tried using it with my 4 year old Dell laptop via USB and it kept overloading the bus power when used without the external power supply, which is not very convenient. (I'll consider that a computer problem and not a drive problem). This is a great external storage product for a portable Mac which you can also cook on after 10 minutes.
Do NOT buy a LaCie drive [Posted on 2008-06-23] I bought this drive based on good user reviews. The drive failed within 6 months where previous drives (other brands) lasted 5+ years. Customer service is basically non-existent. You are not able to speak an actual person. You have to file complaints on their website and then re-log in to check their status. Bad, bad, bad. Like most people, I rely heavily on my external drive and am left high and dry when it goes bad. One needs immediate triage when a drive goes down NOT 3 weeks of worthless web posts. They will not stand behind their product and will divert all responsibility.
Do NOT buy this drive unless you need an expensive paperweight.
Times for Transfer [Posted on 2008-06-27] So far, so good with this product! For comparisons sake, I decided to copy a 5.66 GB video file from a G5 to this drive.
USB 2.0 - 6:15
FireWire 400 - 3:59
FireWire 800 - 2:05
I like the drive thusfar, but I have yet to work much with it.

I'm a video producer and use these for media storage and editing both at the office and on the road using firewire cords. They're bus-powered, so they run off our Macs with ease -- and we have zero latency issues...even with HD material.
Phenomenal product. We've got at least half a dozen of them in varying storage sizes, and they're built for bear. They really are rugged and handle abuse -- drops, jostling, heat, cold -- on the road, in flight, in the field, etc.
When we shoot our video in file formats and have to deliver raw HD material at the end of a shoot vs. editing it, we buy one of these for the project and just hand them off to our clients when it's all done. Never had an issue and always had good feedback.
Skip this drive [Posted on 2008-09-01] This drive runs very hot with constant use. If you just need it for occasional use then you may be ok. I used mine everyday and after about 5 months it died.
