Couldn't be easier [Posted on 2008-05-12] Great product. I just plugged it into my Mac and it was immediatlely recognized and ready to rock. I have a huge video project on it and it works without a hitch.
Built like a tank... and sounds like one too. [Posted on 2008-05-15] If you will be using this hard drive in a quiet environment, you may want to consider some other product. The one I received had a noisy hard drive mechanism. The rotation was quiet enough, but the "seek" sounds (clacking) were much louder than other drives I have used. My guess is that it was a Seagate drive inside, which I have found to have to be noisy in this regard. The rep I spoke to at LaCie said this product may be shipped with a drive from any of the big name manufacturers, so the one you get may be perfectly quiet. As for the enclosure itself, it is very rugged and quite heavy. Seems like very good quality and has every interface you could reasonably hope for. It has a cooling fan too, which is fairly quiet, but you know, it's still a fan.
rock solid [Posted on 2008-05-17] one happy photographer. looking to daisy chain and expand soon though. shooting raw is tough. using lacie for time machine archiving and another for super duper! emergency backup.
Solid, Reliable...What more to ask for. [Posted on 2008-05-18] This is my second drive and it's working great. Construction is superb. Both drives have been reliable. Nothing to complain about other than I wish it were easier to get the desktop rack in to place multiple drives in. Can't beat price here on Amazon.
I dont know, im worried. [Posted on 2008-05-19] I have a lot of photos stored on my 500GB, and only run the device when I am writing to or pulling from. As the HD spins, it shakes and rattles. although i've had it a few months now im worried if I leave it on by mistake this vibration will kill it. I've got it on a small neoprene pad.
