Engrossing and impressive [Posted on 2005-01-28] A fan of mostly Zelda & Metroid (with some FF & Castlevania and the like tossed in) I was initially taken back by this games style.
Much like a first person shooter, this game is like a mix between a Final Fantasy Quest with a Metroid Prime perspective.
The fighting can be damned hard, real hard. You get a target for aiming, but combining the target control with arrows, magic and your sword can be real tough when bombarded from all sides.
Fortunately you play this game by wondering, so you can find easier battles and toughen up, you skip around and do other things, collect different objects until about halfway, then the storyline takes over and you move into a new area and basically the second phase of the game.
Fans of intricate story lines will be dissapointed, and those who love long side quest won't find them here, although there are linking taske that can change the outcome of what items you end up with.
The brunt of this game is you, Arthur, are curse to change between a tiny, fast lizard and a large, sluggish but hard to kill beast. What I never could do was master switching between them, there is supposed to be a way to possess the power to change at will but the instructions never worked for me. Shame, you get real caught for long peroids of time stuck because your too big, or too small to get somewhere.
Over all a good, solid, lush-graphic filled game that runs super smooth on todays fast computers and still looks great!
A lot of fun and hours of exploring and wondering.
Lousy [Posted on 2007-05-16] I bought this game in the mid nineties with great expectations after hearing such good things about the original Lands Of Lore. However, when I actually got into the game, it was mind numbingly boring and annoying. For me, it is by far the worst computer RPG I've ever played. For those that like this thing, more power to you but after playing Might & Magic, Arena Elder Scrolls, and Wizardry 7 during that same era, this just could not hold a candle to them. I tried to give it a chance and played for about five or six hours but got so frustrated, bored, and disgusted with it, that I just took it off my hard drive. It turned me off to the whole series.
Not recommended.
OMG just what I remembered!!! [Posted on 2008-08-28] You have no idea my thrill when I popped those cd's in, and finally started playing!!! I've played it before, and playing it again, I remember it so well. The storyline is fantastic, and the gameplay keeps you guessing, and challenges even the experienced rp gamer. It's a mostly freeform roleplay game which allows you to do things for the most part in your own order, but then again certain things have to be done in the right order to progress. There's more choices than you can imagine. So many secret things, so many nooks and crannies with goodies hiding! You're likely to be discouraged at first by the difficulty and weaponry but as you progress things get interesting! If you're an old school gamer or even a newbie wanting a taste of the oldschool, ya gotta get this game!!! Play it a bit! Then start ya a new character and get the online helps to find the goodies! I'll warn ya now, it can be quite the challenge!!!!! And warning. Any use of this game may become addictive and habit forming... (only cause it's so kewl...) Graphics aren't exactly XBox 360 but think outside the box (pun fully intended) and you'll enjoy a game that takes you to the limits...
