Recently Purchased - taking to France and Italy [Posted on 2007-02-20] I was very excited to get my Lingo Europa seeing as I speak neither French or Italian and we have a trip coming up in two weeks.
The translator sounds like a computer when it talks (go figure), but is pretty understandable. French tends to sound like a bunch of giberish to me anyway, so I am hopeful that a French person can understand even if I can't mimic the language.
The battery pack does not stay on very well and I plan to tape this down before we leave.
The english is very clear and sounds like a British person.
Some fairly typical words are missing (I could not find 'cracker'), but I suspect this is because the device is made off of British English rather than American English.
Device is very small and fits in the pocket of my jeans or a small handbag easily.
I can't wait to use it in Europe!
Lingo TT-5000 [Posted on 2007-09-19] Not enough words and very unclear audio. You're better off without a taking dictionary compared to this unit.
Very Handy Device! [Posted on 2007-10-25] I received this as a present before I went overseas and I found this device to be very handy and usable. The audio on it was not bad and it provided me with the languages I needed. It was also very compact so I could keep it in my pocket. All in all I loved the product.
Lingo TT-5000 [Posted on 2007-10-27] It was well worth the money. It helped in most situations. A couple words were all we needed to communicate. When more was required, the phrases worked almost every time.
Save your money [Posted on 2008-04-13] I was traveling to Paris and Rome and was worried about the language barrier. The only pro is that it is easy to use. However the audio is horrible, garbled and spoken fast. You can hardly understand the French at all. (Female speaker) Eng,German,Spanish,Italian are spoken in a male voice and tend to be a touch clearer. There is also no back light on this unit so it's essentially useless in restaurants which are usually dimly lit. Honestly no matter where you go someone speaks English and you'll feel foolish fumbling with a translator. Languages rated from clearest to not are Eng,Ital,Span,Ger,Fren.
