Compact Router is a Good Value! [Posted on 2008-02-13] I chose this Linksys router because of past experience with their products. In my opinion, they offer a good product for a modest price.
The Linksys WRT54GC is a compact router that is a good value for your money. It meets a need in my work that I have for a small router that easily fits in my laptop bag for travel.
The router is wireless and has excellent range using the built-in antenna. The router has capability for an external antenna (sold separately.) It has four wired ports for connection to any wired network devices. The wireless is easily secured using WEP or MAC address authentication.
All in all, if you have a need for a small portable router that is inexpensive, but has capabilities found in much more expensive units, I strongly recommend this one.
Low lifespan [Posted on 2008-06-06] Worked for about a year for me. Range was low without any separate antenna. Range is average with antenna. Interface is pretty simple for networking VPN and games.
Linksys Compact Wireless Router WRT54GC [Posted on 2008-07-03] Router is working just fine. It did not come alive right out of the box using the provided CD-rom instructions and set up software. My more computer literate son-in-law was needed to do his magic.
Don't buy this! [Posted on 2008-07-14] Having used many Linksys products for many years I have to say that this router is really crappy. Can't handle many wireless and wired connections at the same time and then freezes so you have to unplug and replug the power connector: Really annoying. It happens all the time. Save your many and frustations. Go buy another product, like the WRT54G (the non compact version) which has two antennas by the way.
good coverage with a good price [Posted on 2008-07-14] the CD-based setup didn't work because it couldn't find out my connection maybe because it needs dialing, soI had to configure it myself but other than that everything was OK, maybe it's not that fast but till now it's stable.
