Customer Reviews:

Awesome Product [Posted on 2008-08-26]
I have had the bridge for 2 years now, and it work flawlessly. Easy to set up. Easy to start. Its great for playing your playlists or streaming music at partys. I have a friend that uses it with a boombox around his pool. 5 stars.

Wireless routher.. COULD work! [Posted on 2008-09-20]
This is really a neat item.
I cannot understand how the company Linksys has not perfected the software and installation for it, yet keep selling them lol
I think they need a better help desk, there seem to be many things that can cause a problem including the anti virus, because you are sending the music through your wireless router, I guess mine is having a problem with that!

My Amazon Purchase went well and the company I got it from had it to me in few days faster than expected!
This product worked then did not work then worked then did not work....

Works good but hard to setup! [Posted on 2008-09-21]
After reading many negative reviews about the setup of this unit I was a
bit dubious but purchased it anyway. Shipping was fast.

It arrived and I unpacked it and inserted the setup disk and followed the
instructions. Once the WMB54G was powered up the setup was unable to locate the device (even though an ethernet cable was attached to my laptop).

I tried several things to no avail. Finally I called technical
support. After wading through six levels of menu's and being on hold for 20 minutes I finally was connected to an agent. I could barely understand her accent (you can guess where she was from). Finally after she put me on hold I was cut off after 20 minutes. I called back, went through the menu's and finally got to an agent (after listening to a recording talking about their "award winning suppor line", yeah, right! By this time I had two hours invested.

She (again the accent which was barely understandable), obviously reading
from a screen, went through several setup changes on my Linksys router but
nothing worked. After all that was exhausted she asked me to hold.

After 15 minutes another agent answered and told me that for $9.99 they could do a Webex session and fix the problem. I told him that the support was supposed to be free but I agreed on the condition that if it didn't work that I would not be charged.

He takes control of my screen via Webex and tries a number of things to no
avail. Finally, after completely reconfiguring my router, plugging and
unplugging ethernet cables, reboots and so forth it still won't work. He
finally goes to the Linksys support site for the WMB54G and downloads a
new firmware driver and burns it into the WMB54G. Then we reboot and everything works okay.

Total investment: $33.50 for unit, $7.25 for shipping, $9.99 for support, and three hours of my time on the support line.

All that said, I am pleased with how the unit works. I can now select recordings from Itunes (both puchased and ripped) and it plays well over my stereo system.

So, if you want something inexpensive I can recommend this product if you've got the patience to set it up. Be sure to download the latest firmware(Version 2.18 dated 3/12/2008) from the Linksys site before starting!

Pro's:
Works well

Con's:
Setup is difficult
Support site is typical offshore

Let's get the party started!! [Posted on 2008-09-22]
Awesome product, but a total pain to set up! I love it for the digital output to my living room stereo system, everybody loves the internet radio stations jamming hard on my stereo. But I would recommend downloading the software updaters from the Linksys website for the firmware and utility software. And install them in that order. Don't even bother with the outdated installation CD, the website installation software is more current.

Not an Apple [Posted on 2008-09-25]
Wow, there's a reason this thing is selling for $30 from its original list price of over $100 - its a royal PITA to use!

I already had a Linksys router and figured this would be a straightforward set up, being technically capable. Even once you have everything installed and working, its buggy and requires niggling to get it to work between it being on and off.

Although it costs more, I'd recommend an Apple Airport Express if you use iTunes for your music library. I still have my Linksys as my main network, but I ended up buying one of these things because it just works. Now, when I want to stream my music, I switch from my Linksys network to the Apple one, and simply play the music. Its not perfect, but I plan on buying an Apple Airport Extreme base station so I won't have to change networks anymore. Its still better than spending 10 minutes getting the Linksys to play music every time you want to stream.
