Not Vista compatible [Posted on 2007-04-10] The only way I could get this card to work on a Windows Vista maching is in safe mode. I used their help chat service on line and was told that they have no plans to make it compatible with Vista. I was chatting with them using the card in safe mode. it not only picked up my network but 4 others from a very long distance. This was not a big deal to me because I was planning to install Window XP on the machine anyway. its a new machine and would not send it with XP and I have some expensive software that is not Vista compatible. They have a listing of products that are Vista compatible on the website.
Linksys WMP54GX [Posted on 2007-09-06] Adapter works great - Setup was simple. I do use a Linksys Router and have been very satisfied with everything. -- If you can find it for a decent price (less than 50 bucks) I say GO FOR IT !!!
Excelente! [Posted on 2007-10-13] Es un producto excelente, la extención de la base de las antenas es perfecto, en convinación con el Router del mismo modelo te detecta 108Mbps
Not compatible with WinXP Service Pack 2 or Vista [Posted on 2007-11-08] I bought the WRT54GX router and the WMP54GX wireless card together. My room is blocked by copper piping, so it's always been difficult to get a signal with "ordinary" 802.11b and -g wireless cards.
The network card was easy to install. I was glad they used a wired antenna rather than one directly attached to the card. The software installation required me to reboot my PC, which I thought was annoying. On the other hand, the network card had no problem connecting to my router. And the signal was exceptionally strong. Data transfer is also lightning fast.
Now the bad news. The biggest downside to this network card is the poor software compatibility. Neither the Linksys software drivers or their network configuration utility are compatible with Windows XP Service Pack 2. And since most PC users on the planet are probably using SP2, this is a major problem. Some serious bugs with SP2 have included the Blue-Screen-of-Death, frequent connection timeouts and even hard reboots. What's worse, there has been no software update from Linksys to fix this problem.
So my recommendation? If you're running Windows XP Service Pack 1, and are not planning to upgrade to SP2, then go ahead and buy this card. If, on the other hand, you have WinXP SP2 or Vista, then avoid this card like the plague.
Very impressive works as described and some cords too short [Posted on 2008-07-04] This adapter is awesome it picks up signals from a block away. It works as described and it is easy to install. Only drawback is the length of the wires which are barely long enough for you to sit it on top of your tower. So, if your tower is under your desk or in your desk im not sure how great it would be as i have my tower on top of my desk with the antenna on top of the tower.
I use this adapter with the srx router and the both of them together is unreal.
Be careful as you can pick up your network from blocks away from your house. I have done it using my pda and pickup up my signal from 2 blocks away with at least 2-3 bars of signal as well.
