EXCELLENT.... but keys ever so slightly heavier than expected. [Posted on 2008-10-28] Basically, I think this keyboard is terrific. Standard layout. Everything works without drivers, including the multimedia keys. Feels solid. Looks nice, without looking like a toy. Keys have low travel distance, like a notebook would.
I have just 2 complaints. Both are very minor, which is why I still give it 5 stars.
Keys are heavier than I'd expect for a "laptop-style" keyboard. Compared to my plain Dell keyboard (the one that shipped with the computer), the keys are just slightly heavier. I tested this semi-objectively by resting a pair of scissors on the H key. On the Dell, it pressed the key immediately. On the Logitech, it pressed the key slowly. Not a big difference.
That said, this might be due to the fact the Logitech is brand new and the Dell has been used heavily for 2 years.
The F8 key is just above the gap between 9 and 0. On the Dell, F8 is just above the gap between 8 and 9. That's going to take some getting used to. I'll bet nobody else in the world would even notice that, but I do. It messes up my reach.
Awesome Stepmania Keyboard [Posted on 2008-10-28] For those of you who don't know, this is the keyboard used by the famed Stepmania gamer, Izzy. The keys are shallow, but the board is solid, so you can really pound on the thing, and the buttons make fantastically audible clicking noises. Since I bought this, timing on my trills and triplets has improved, as well as my overall speed. However, it's unfortunate that there aren't any hot buttons for volume control (there is one for mute).
Good bang for the buck [Posted on 2008-11-13] The first thing I noticed about this keyboard besides it's great looks is it's very solid, feels like you could throw it through a window like a brick if you wanted to.
I almost gave this keyboard 4/5 stars because it won't work in flash bios. It worked on other computers, I could access the bios and choose start up method, etc ...
If you have a Dell 4700 with Bios Revision A10 this keyboard won't work on start up. Maybe it worked with A7 who knows ... So whenever I have an error on start up I have to go find a different keyboard to proceed.
Other than that issue this keyboard is an awesome plug 'n play keyboard with a small profile, footprint, and somewhat useful media keys.
Very quite, and cool looking. [Posted on 2008-11-23] I bought this keyboard for my wife. She liked the look and the features. I since liked it for its quiteness. I stay up late working and my old keyboard kept everyone awake (we live in a small railroad apartment in Brooklyn), so I got one for myself and have had no complaints since. If you can deal with the fact that it is just a large laptop keyboard (very flat), you'll be fine. I like it.
Very stylish and affordable notebook-type keyboard [Posted on 2008-11-29] I recently purchased a desktop system that came with a generic mushy, full-travel keyboard, and decided I would like to replace it with a keyboard having a more notebook style (i.e. short-stroke) keyboard. So my search criteria were: full-sized, short-stroke keyboard with an affordable price and good reviews. I finally decided on this Logitech Ultra x-Flat keyboard, and have been very happy with my decision so far. It is very slim and solid feeling, and comfortable to type on. It seems quite well made for its price, and has one additional benefit that was not part of my search criteria: it's actually very stylish and looks great on my desk!
