Customer Reviews:

Great product [Posted on 2008-04-10]
i have nothing but good things to say about this keyboard/mouse combo. It is everything it says it is and does everything it says it does. The only issue may be when the kayboard is 1st turned on its got about a 1 or 2 sec lag and then after that its good to go.

Mostly works, but unforgivable failures [Posted on 2008-04-18]
The mouse is 99% good. The keyboard sometimes locks up and spews whatever the last keypress was. The media controls keep getting in the way. A company with this much experience should be doing better than this.

No Problems with Excellent Feel & Layout [Posted on 2008-04-19]
I've had this for a month now and think I've found a possible Fix to most problems here with the USB Port Sleep mode. I previously owned the MX Comfort Duo & Cordless Elite (MX700 @ 5 Years) and the MX5000 seems to be working fine with NONE of the disconnect problems mentioned here. Every button & function work fine including the volume control even though it's a little pathetic (open your media control & watch the Volume on it you'll see it track the keyboard slider perfectly). Tried a game using both pieces and it worked flawless for 2 hours. I even still use the MX700 charger with the MX1000 and have rechargeable batteries in the keyboard.
I don't use a Router and don't use the Bluetooth Hub either. In my experience 50% of the problems here are caused by a messed up OS (old drivers, etc) that should be reformatted from scratch. I use 3 different WINXP partitions and not one of them have any Keyboard/Mouse/Setpoint problems except when changing to a new Partition which forces me to reinitialize the keyboard just once for some reason.
Another 25% may be caused by poor quality motherboard USB ports (saw this in Forums) which is why you should always try another port. I use an AMD Nvidia Chipset on a Biostar board. I'm guessing almost 50% may also be caused by the USB Sleep mode (#7) below too. Setpoint software isn't the problem either since other Bluetooth combos are fine with it.
Other than the corrupted OS which should be done once a Year minimum here's what I've done to minimize the problems.
1) Got the Bluetooth transmitter away from the PC & 2.4ghz Phone using the extension.
2) I don't use a Router which can be the worse problem at 2.4ghz freqency.
3) I DON'T use Vista, Ech!
4) If you do disconnect ONLY use the Connection Assistant or Dongle Connect Button and disable the Hub under Connection Assistant/Troubleshoot/Disable.
5) The MX1000 mouse has NO sleep mode (off or on ONLY) so if you click a KEY before moving it you get NO lag.
6) ONLY use the latest Setpoint 4.4 off the web.
7) Here's an unusual but Big one.
Found a possible problem in WINXP Device manager under "USB Root Hub/Power Management" where the PC can turn a USB Device OFF (sleep mode) to conserve power and it's Checked ON by default. I turned both HUB power managers OFF and one device I was having problems with was cleared up. (MX5000 keyboard going to sleep maybe)
These things might help the other problems here and I've Never had to reinstall the keyboard using Setpoint on a restart using Standby, Hibernate or Full Shutdown either.
All around it just seems to be really a good system other than the gimmicky keyboard and cheap feeling mouse Wheel compared to the MX700. With a 3 Year Warranty and paying about $65 after Rebates it's great and if anything dies I just send it back to Logitech to get the latest updated system for a shipping fee.
Positives:
Good Range, Great looks and Excellent feel
Like the layout of both pieces
Software finally seems to work properly (Setpoint 4.4)
Just found out that the Zoom changes Font size quickly while writing
this review!
Can't Beat a rechargeable Mouse
Easy to reinitialize keyboard with Assistant or Dongle if needed
Negatives:
Gimmicky keyboard and unusual letters make it harder to type
Cheap Feeling mouse Wheel from worthless Tilt
No replaceable Mouse Battery (what were they thinking)

Meh, at best! [Posted on 2008-04-21]
Just read everyone elses reviews! That sums everything up. I bought this combo set to replace my MX5000 mouse that died (due to heavy use) and to finally try a cordless keyboard.

Well, Logitechs BIGGEST mistake was discontinuing the MX5000 mouse. I had mine for almost 5 years, and I spend a lot of time playing WoW.

The combo isn't overly bad, but it's not up to Logitech par. At one point, Logitechs bluetooth dongle created problems with itself. Meaning, the installed driver for the Keyboard/mouse combo had a problem with Logitechs drivers for bluetooth headsets. I don't have a bluetooth headset, but I did have a Keyboard / mouse that no longer worked.

To sum everything up:
"Buyer beware." on this combo!

Good Features but left me wanting more [Posted on 2008-05-13]
Great quality interface that has an LCD display! I wish the menu options included more features. Only limited to Media Player and startup features for basic functions. But it is really a nice product.
