Best product for price! [Posted on 2008-07-16] Could have not asked for a better universal remote at this price. Amazon makes things very easy and free shipping is always a plus.
About as good as it gets [Posted on 2008-07-16] I just received this remote today and had it set up and completely working in about 30 min. First thing to do is make sure the remote is compatible with your equipment prior to ordering by visiting the logitech / harmony website, it is very easy to navigate and find out if you are covered.
The remote itself is a breeze to set up. Make sure you know what the model number and make of all your equipment is and what input they are connected to on your TV. The program will walk you through the rest. and once you test it on your components the remote will help you with issues that come up with a simple to navigate help menu on the remote itself.
I can't say enough good things about this remote. It works perfectly with my system:
Samsung LN40A550P HDTV, Sony all in one home theatre DAV-DX255, and a Scientific Atlanta HD-DVR.
Do yourself a favor and get rid of all those remotes and have this one sleek remote do it all for you.
Change Your Mindset about Universal Remotes [Posted on 2008-07-17] I started looking for a universal remote when one of my component's remote failed.I was extremely skeptical about a universal because I had used a universal before and they were a pain.
THIS remote is completely different. Completely change your mindset about how a remote works. It works on a specific activity (i.e. watch TV, watch a DVD, listen to the radio, etc.) rather than trying to specifically operate a component. For instance, when you press "play DVD", the volume button controls the receiver, the TV automatically changes to the right inputs, the play button operates the DVD player, etc. It is so intuitive.
ONE NOTE: It took me a couple tries to realize that once you press an "activity" like "Play DVD" it takes about 10 seconds for all of the components to be activated and changed to the right settings. I thought it wasn't working right at first, but it was just me being impatient.
Wonderful product. Anyone that has 4-5 components, or 7 like I do, should get this.
Could be better [Posted on 2008-07-22] I like that you can set it up to perform multiple functions with one press of the button, this feature would be great if it actually worked right more than 50% of the time. Half the time, the TV doesn't turn on from the first try - same goes when I try to turn it off.
Remote control clutter is a thing of the past... [Posted on 2008-07-24] Does what it says, excels where other universal remotes have fallen behind. If it has IR, the logitech 550 will find it. Programming was simple (usb)and easy to follow with just a few clicks. I was amazed that it even programmed my 5 yr old surround system. Turns necessary components on with just 1 button (convenient) and turns off just the same.
