Ok... [Posted on 2006-07-09] This game is ok. You can build your dream mall, but only 3 stories. After you build a store, you have to set it just right or customers will think that it is overpriced. Sometimes, zobies or ailens will come and invade your mall, leaving the mall deserted so you have to start over. The grapics are pretty bad. The walls of stores look like cardboard and the people all look alike with unrealistic colors and with set patterns. If you are the kind of person who doesn't care about graphics and likes building things, then this is the game for you!
Unfortunately Disappointing [Posted on 2006-07-25] What a tragedy! Perhaps the later versions of the game have fixed all the problems with the original but since I've only played this one I can only speak to it.
Game summary: build a mall from the ground up. Lay the floors, walls, stairs, doors, stores, etc. Control marketing, staff, special events, and store price margins. The game concept itself is great and appeals to any Tycoon fan.
Positive Aspects:
+ A great selection of decorations, stores, and improvements. The possibility for combinations is really good. Some stores can have up to 4 different "departments" and you can mix and match what's available in them.
+ The game interface is easy to use. Once you're familiar with where everything is you'll find it very simple to navigate. The buttons are all organized fairly well and make it simple to understand.
Negative aspects:
- the Graphics and Sound are rough. Sometimes irritating. Every single time you build something you must endure the sound of a construction crew at work - or shut the sound off. The music is rather lame. The graphics are poorly done. Some of the animations are okay but overall the effects are lacking.
- There's no tutorial to speak of. The one provided in the game is more of a brief talking head trying to explain a couple of things about the game to you.
- The gameplay is disappointing. You can build this great looking mall with tons of different stores and endure a meager 30 people shopping in it. Which of course doesn't do wonder for your finances. It's difficult to tell how to attract people, how much to charge stores for operation, and what to research next.
Hope this helps!
It is pretty Fun [Posted on 2006-11-07] Okay, I got this game at walmart for like 10 bucks because I was bored. I began to play it and I was pretty occupied, the graphics weren't that great but, yah, it kept me occupied. After about 3 days I got so bored with it, that I stuffed it in one of my drawers and never looked at it again for a long, long time. I played it a few times after that, but, it was only because there was absolutely nothing else at all that I could do.
Well, now I play it all the time. You know why, Cheat codes. With cheat codes you can make the ultimate mall and unlock everything without the wait. It is super fun and best of all, I'm not always bored. So, yes I highly recommend buying this if you use cheat codes, because without cheat codes it's like retarded. But yes, it is really fun and cheap.
This game should be illegal!!! [Posted on 2006-12-24] This game was definitely the worst Tycoon game ever! I suggest for you to either stick with the originals, such as: Roller Coaster Tycoon 1-3, zoo Tycoon, or any others that you are sure are good quality. In this game, the graphics are just awful, and it is completely confusing! It is also very boreing...you do almost nothing! So far, at the price of less than a dollar, you could maybe buy them as cheap gifts that will instantly become re-gifts. All i can say about this posotively is that the packageing is suitable. Though you can tell how poor of quality it is by concentrating on some of the graphics. (I must say again how awful they were.) Seriously, don't buy it! You're a mouse-click away from the most horribly awful game ever to be out on the market!!! This game should be illegal!!!
Not bad... [Posted on 2007-01-09] After reading all the reviews that this game wasn't worth the purchase, I was a little reluctant to buy it. However, I decided to give it a shot since im a big tycoon game fan and found it to be not so bad as the reviews make it seem...
Good things:
Concept. Very nice idea. A mall is something very common and that most everyone is familiar with.
Choices. You have a lot of stores to choose from. Anywhere from food, clothes, technology, restaurants, cinemas, etc.
Length of challenges. Although they are ranked from easy to hard...the easy ones aren't that boring. You actually have the chance to spend some time on it. And if you win, you can keep playing.
Bad things:
Graphics: Although most of the stores are drawn nicely, the overall look of the graphics isn't too good. Not very clear images.
Secret stores. It takes a while for all of the stores to be unlocked. And if you are playing for a challenge, it's not convenient.
Money. Although the money is not spent incredibly fast, it does seem to be too little at some points. Like when putting floors and walls, it runs out very fast.
So overall, if you are a tycoon fanatic, you'll probably want to give it a shot. However, I do recommend that you use the cheats if you really want to get the full experience in the free play.
