Snipe Away [Posted on 2007-06-11]
It's a good sequel to Marine Sharps. II, but in comparison to other games out there it's a little lacking.

Here's the Good, Bad, and Ugly on MS III:

__The Good__
Many combinations of rifles to choose from. Definitely enjoy employing silcencers on handguns/sniper rifles. You can order around your spotter or switch to your spotter when walking around in town for Close Quarters. It's fun to plunk away with the Barett M82 .50 cal.
Spotter/Sniper team is a good addition to the game. And the graphics/scenery in this one is improved from the last.

__The Bad__
Little improvement to characters and landscape.
No matter how much you sneak around, the enemy for some reason still sees you. Doesn't matter how far away, if it's within their field of view, chances are they will spot you. And they're fairly accurate.
Hit detection is sometimes off a little.
The length of the game is fairly short.

__The Ugly__
Enemy Charater movement: They move in weird ways. Almost as if they were a "Queen" on a chess board (looks like a diagonal move they make). More often they run right toward you, even if it means they are lined up in a row coming at you. Which of course means it looks like one guy coming at you since the two can occupy the same space, and they both look exactly the same (same character mapping).
Sniper/Spotter movement: Depending upon which character you're using, your teammate might just stand there. And not only that but he'll look like a scarecrow with arms stretched out to either side like he's trying to fly. It wouldn't do this all the time though; sometimes the spotter would actually assist.

There is NO multiplayer.

Overall:
Good thing it is inexpensive. This game is not worth anything above it. But for the cheap price it's fun to creep around and try out the different sniper rifles and switch to your spotter so that you can use whatever assault rifle he has on hand. While it's fun to explore and snipe, it's a shame that they didn't go the extra mile in game development to meet the current "standard" of graphics/gameplay.

Not the best of the Sharpshooter series. [Posted on 2007-09-02]
There are so many things wrong with this version that clearly take away from the fun factor. As it stands, Marine Sharpshooter 2 is still the best one of this series. Marine Sharpshooter 1 was bug central.. forget about that one. I'm not going to try and review this game compared to the other great first person shooters out there. There is no way to do that. The Sharpshooter series is a low budget one that can still be very entertaining. But... this year's Marine Sharpshooter 3 has taken away too many things that made Marine Sharpshooter 2 so good.

First, there is no more quick save. Sharpshooter 3 saves only at checkpoints now which means you will be repeating the same sections over and over. This can be very frustrating and tiresome. You also can't skip the cutscenes, so you will watch those over and over again too.

Second, your spotter is of no help at all now. The only thing you can do is switch between him to control or your sniper. Other than that, he will repeatedly call out "I'm taking fire" and stand there like a complete moron while enemies pump lead into him. He just stands there straight up giving away where you are. He will also disappear for long periods of time too if you don't control him to move. In Marine Sharpshooter 2, your spotter constantly follows you, giving good advise when he spots an enemy and he even shoots them with you. Not in this year's version. He just stands there.

Third, the background music is gone and the graphics are something straight out of the Delta Force series. It seemed like so many times that I was playing the Delta Force single player campaign with enemies just standing firing at me with precision accuracy from thousands of miles away. Every level looks the same too! Very bland, with just sand, sand, and more sand.

Forth, you really can't sneak up and snipe enemies like before. These enemies will see you from thousands of yards no matter what you do. In Marine Sharpshooter 2, you could hide in the tall grass then sneak up and pop the enemies without them even knowing you were there.

There are also many places where you can't decend ladders properly, or climb hills, there's some clipping issues, etc. There are some good sniper weapons this time though but you can't zoom in with them like you could with Marine Sharpshooter 2. This version just made me want to play Marine Sharpshooter 2 again and sure enough, when I popped in Marine Sharpshooter 2... it is sooooo much more enjoyable than Marine Sharpshooter 3. This year's version is just not as fun as Marine Sharpshooter 2.
