Total Waste [Posted on 2005-08-18] Maxell Quick Fix Disc Repair (CD-333)
I was at my neighborhood video store recently, and the clerk, knowing how fussy I am about my CDs and DVDs(especially if I buy them used), told me about this new product. A Quick Fix Disc Repair kit by Maxell. I had used other CD cleaning products by Maxell and was always happy with the results. This one was different though. The cover said it would "repair minor scratches quickly in ONE STEP". It also stated on the carton it would repair up to 5 discs. It was on special, a price I couldnt refuse, so I said I'd give it a try.
Okay, I gave it a try. Here's what it is. It's a little cardboard case containing, one soft cloth the size and shape of a CD. The instructions said to locate the tube with the repair solution. Check. located, but wait, what's this, it's not a "tube", it's a little packet like the ketchup packet you get at McDonald's(only a little bigger). After making a small tear in the packet to open it, i followed the instructions carefully. A few drops on the back side of the disc, rub the solution in with 1/2 the cloth in a center to edge motion(always do this with any cleaning cloth, never circular) for about a minute, and then immediatley use the second half of the cloth to buff the CD to a "clean like-new finish"(also in center to edge motion).
The DVD I tried it on was a two sided disc.(Widescreen/Standard formats), so I gave this two chances of the five I was supposed to get out of it. It did NOT repair the very light minor scratches or smudges on either side of my disc. As a matter of fact I think it looked worse then when I started. And now I have an open packet of solution that does not seal closed, and has already dripped on my table! I don't know if it'll get 5 uses or not, because I don't want to use it on any other discs!
Waste of time, waste of money!
Skip this one....Laurie
Please, don't waste your money [Posted on 2007-10-23] Pit-i-ful! Simple as that, I also had a clerk tell me this stuff was great and that I should try it. I have a commercial cleaner (JFJ Disc Repair) but wanted to see if this little repair "kit" would work on lighter scratches and then I would not have to break out the big machine as much. What was I thinking?! This does NOTHING at all. I can not stress enough, do not purchase this even at the low price. It is a waste.
