Great Product! [Posted on 2008-08-11] Not only does this device perform well, it looks really great!! I've bought several 2.5 portable HDs in my time and all of them were very boring looking. With the hardware-based full-disc encryption technology if an invalid password is keyed, it prohibits access to your data. Backup software that it comes with can automatically back up your personal data that are for your eyes only. And if you were to lose it, you have peace of mind that no one else would be able to access your sensitive data.
leave other "clunks" at home [Posted on 2008-08-11] just so i clarify, the Black Armor is not one of those portable drives you carry around with a clunky power supply/cord. on top of its security features, which was really easy to set up, the Black Armor has a decent design in my opinion. in times when you hear about data thefts and compromises, the Black Armor definitely stepped up to do the job in securing all your data in case it gets lost or stolen. the transfer rate isn't too bad either, although it ain't the faster ones compared to competition; personally i can trade a little speed for protection.
one thing about this drive however if you are 'lazy' like me sometimes, is that you have to type in password every time you connect the drive, even if it's on the same system. perhaps this process can be improved later by ways of assigning digital signatures to auto authenticate between the system and the Black Armor. oh yea, it's a bit pricier than the competition. aside from the above, it's a great little drive!
sleek drive [Posted on 2008-08-12] Pretty sleek drive. Nice exterior enclosure and portability. If you need security and portability this is the drive for you.
Nice, sleek [Posted on 2008-08-24] Nice, sleek. Security is a bit overkill for the music and photos I'm keeping on it, but nice to know its there I guess.
Concerned about security? Get this drive [Posted on 2008-09-03] This drive is great for those concerned about security more than functionality.
All the security software and back-up utilities come pre-loaded on the hard-drive, so all you have to do is plug it in and answer a few questions. The drive itself is sleek and very sturdy, and comes with a pouch that stores the hard-drive and the USB cable. It really is a great looking drive.
Now for some of the cons. Everytime you disconnect the hard-drive, you have to unlock the drive before it can be used. Also, transfer speeds seem a tad bit slower than my other portable drive, albeit not that much slower but worth noting. The price of this drive is a little steep compared with the storage space received. You do get better value going with the 320GB drive though.
All in all, this drive receives 4 stars because it provides great security in a great looking drive, but you are paying a premium for it.
