Utterly embarssing [Posted on 2004-03-20] Whoever designed this one knew nothing about WW2 or infantry tactics. The first mission has you land on the African coast to prepare the way for Torch. Guess who your opponents are. Vicy French hold outs? No the Afrika Korps who by the way are fighting a rear guard action against Monty about 600 miles away from the supposed area of operations. There was not a German soldier anywhere near the American landings, and the troops rushed to Tunisia after the landings to guard Rommel's rear were the the 10th Panzer. But why worry about history, this isn't a sim it's a kid's toy--shoot the Nazis (there always have to be Nazi's). The AI allied soldiers act like a mob rather than a squad or platoon, and since their actions cannot be controlled, they rush into situations where slaughter is inevitable. You can't open a door until its "time" because this is really not a "game" just a story, and it's not as good as old "Combat" reruns. Old TV shows seem to drive this "tale." The most laughable is a jeep driving down a runway machine gunning German planes, some of which were never used in the Med., like an old episode of "Rat Patrol." Don't get sucked in. There is only one criteria that applies to shooters. The Tactical situation and the AI have to allow for many solutions to the problem, NOT JUST ONE. This is just linear progress from level to level about as interesting as solitaire with a lot of noise. It's what I imagine fantasy shooters are like only with "Nazis" instead of Bug Eyed Monsters. JUNK!!!
This game is HOT!!! [Posted on 2004-03-21] This game can be described in 5 words, out of this world fun. This is the first ww2 fps game I have and I think this game is nothing but intensely fun. I strongly recommend all fps game lovers to purchase this game as soon as possible, cause it can get so addictive, you would'nt be able to put it down.It gave me weeks and weeks of intense fun, and left me begging for more!
It is still very good [Posted on 2004-03-22] Although this is now a dated game, the twenty dollar price is hard to resist. Think about it... twenty dollars for two great WWII games. The graphics are not the best but that does not seem to be a hinderance on an enjoyable experience. There are some things that I find annoying about this game though. First, it is not realistic. In almost every mission you are alone defeating a whole army of nazis. That annoys me alot. That never happened, it never will in the next 100 wars. People are dumb enough to let a single man infiltrate the whole country and get away with it while killing a whole brigade. It just doesnt happen. Second, Lag. Online is fun but unless you have a good computer or alot of disk space your ping will be well over 75. Thus causing the server to slow down and the framerate takes a nosedive. Other than that this is definately worth the twenty dollars.
Easy to save your progress [Posted on 2004-06-25] Tried playing this game on the xBox but it got buggy and froze. The PC version is great. Lots more levels, too. For the best candles and soaps, please visit homespun-candles-soap.com
Great oldie but shows its age [Posted on 2004-09-02] Don't get me wrong, this is the great game that started the whole real war FPS thing going around now (there's actually some for Vietnam, I know war is war but that just seems wierd to me).
The only real reason to get this game though is if your computer is more than 3 years old and can't handle more excellent fare like Call of Duty. But the game has some great levels, the best being D-Day. The game does a good job showing the desperation of getting to the other side of that beach. But after playing a few different games, the graphics are pretty lame. And I found the you-vs.-Germany thing a little stupid. But for anyone who wants to enter the world of PC gaming with a less than current PC, you could do a lot worse.
