Is it Live or Memorex? 30 tries for you to decide! [Posted on 2007-07-06] As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write and or discuss various recordings from the 60's and 70's. Sometimes as a person that has worked in electronic stores my thoughts are requested on recording equipment and electronics.
Memorex 700MB/80-Minute 52x CD-R Media (30-Pack with Jewel Cases)
Memorex has been ultra reliable for me as a recording medium for blank CDR's. I have used a substantial amount over the years for both data and pictures (Notes on my Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and photos) and for various rock and roll albums.
The CD's have held up well and there have been very little that were defective right out of the package. While the quality control is a shade below the Fuji from Japan, in no way should Memorex be considered a poor second choice.
For maximum shelf life the recorded CD's should be in jewel cases (How nice is it they come in the package for us) and not in paper sleeves. If you are into making your own labels make sure to use the better quality paper. The inferior thin labels not only will curl up before they are placed on the CD but the glue will actually get into the CD itself. Many defective CD's are not the fault of the manufacturer but the consumer not using best judgment.
Enjoy the music and be well,

awful packaging! never again [Posted on 2007-08-05] The CDs are fine. They work as expected. BUT, each slim-line jewel-case'd CD is individual shrink-wrapped, and non-trivial to open, creating pointless shrink-wrap waste to dispose of. Once you do manage to get the jewel case open, the prongs holding the CDs in place are poorly-designed, making it hard to remove the CD without breaking the prongs, thus rendering the jewel case paralyzed.
I'm sure that the CDs are great, maybe even superior to other major brands (though I can't really tell a difference). But due to the inordinately huge ordeal involved in getting the CD out of the packaging, I have no intention of ever purchasing Memorex optical media again.
jewel cases make the difference [Posted on 2008-03-15] I hand these out to employees who come into the IT office needing bank CD's. The jewel cases can easily be emptied to look business professional and protect them good enough to be shipped or handed to a customer or co worker. The CD's are fairly typical, have little to no text on the top off color so you can write on them or apply a label.
A Little Disappointed [Posted on 2008-09-10] Memorex 700MB/80-Minute 52x CD-R Media (30-Pack with Jewel Cases)
I purchased these CD-Rs because they were advertised as having jewel cases, which to me always meant the old style full size cases(which I prefer), but it seems the term jewel case now applies also to the slim variety of jewel case which I could have just as easily bought at the local Best Buy or wherever without shipping cost or waiting for them to arrive. I shopped for them on Amazon because they are becoming hard to find with full size cases and I thought Amazon would carry a wider selection and I would get what I was looking for. One other problem, the discs have no labels or cards to write down what is on the disc after burning it. I guess I have to buy those separately, which I would have, had I known they wouldn't be included with the discs. I know the discs themselves have no problems but the advertising is lacking.
So, yes I am A Little Disappointed
Good value [Posted on 2008-10-01] I received this item in great shape in a very timely manner. The combined disks and cases make this a very good value.
