Under-rated, over-criticized [Posted on 2004-06-28] I have used MS WORKS from about the time it was born, when it was quite primitive and sometimes unstable. But I have continued to use it, primarily for databases, because it has become progressively more stable and easy to use. These are not all small and simple databases--many include several thousand items, each with 20 to 30 fields of data. It is easy to "find" single items or to assemble groups of items ("filter"), and to print customized reports. So if you don't need (or want) the super sophistication of ACCESS, I have found WORKS to be a friendly and helpful--and inexpensive--alternative.
A Best Buy [Posted on 2005-08-23] I have used works type products for years. Microsoft Works 7 is the best of the lot. It will work on almost any computer in use today and is definitely a best buy at the current price.
Good enough for most users... [Posted on 2005-12-01] With Microsoft Office going for anywhere between $130-$300 (depending on what apps are included, there's the Education edition, Basic, Small Business, Professional, etc.) WORKS fills a gap Office shouldn't, and that's probably why Microsoft still releases it. I've used WORKS since it ran in DOS and was small enough to be run from a floppy, and it continues to be what it was, a function, if no-frills productivity suite. For most users, this will be enough to create most of the everyday letters and databases. You don't even have to bother with that annoying paper clip...
If you're looking for something more functional, but don't have the money for Office, then the open source Open Office would be the way to go. If Works comes packaged with your PC though, it might just be enough for you.
Simple program [Posted on 2007-01-15] Microsoft Works 7.0 is a simple easy to use program. It is all that I need for home use on the computer that it is on.
Price and Capability [Posted on 2007-01-18] For the price, this is a great substitute for OFFICE. Good, Capable, Easy. I haven't needed anymore, (using as a "home-based" product).
