Moneydance is best bang for your buck! [Posted on 2006-12-14] I can summarize my feelings about Moneydance as follows: (1) IF you are fairly computer-savvy, understand double-entry accounting, categories, reconciling, configuring software, know the differences among QIF, CSV and QFX files, and you despise Intuit/Quicken for their customer-hostile philosophy, then Moneydance will be the best thirty bucks you ever spent; (2) IF you need financial software to hold your hand and look pretty, or you really prefer Online Banking to work 100% of the time (without tweaking & hoping) from within the program, then buy Microsoft Money.
Moneydance's online forum is THE BEST and the developers really care about customers' feedback, suggestions, complaints, etc. When MD 2007 comes out -- with better Help and Online Banking, not to mention an improved interface -- it's certainly apt to earn its 5th Star here in the Ratings. For now, whether you're using Windows, Linux or Mac, go download a (free) trial version from [...] and love it like I do!
A perfect application. [Posted on 2007-01-29] I have been using Moneydance for over two years now. Moneydance 2007 just came out and my key was still good for a free upgrade - that's right, my version is current over two years after I purchased it for only $30. Next year I will probably have to shell out $15 for an upgrade and I will do it gladly. The entire time I have had Moneydance, it has worked without a hitch. I use it in Linux, but if in the future I decide to change to Windows, Mac, or some platform that hasn't been invented yet (as long as that platform gets java support) I can take my financial records with me. Amazon shows this product as discontinued by the manufacturer. This is not true. Give them a Google and you'll find them. I just downloaded the latest version today (Jan 29 2007). You can download a free trial that will take 100 transactions and let you play with all of the features before you buy. You owe it to yourselves to at least do that. I am not a representative of Reilly Technologies, nor am I compensated for this in any way (ie I'm not a shill). I am just a very happy customer.
Good bye Quicken/MS Money [Posted on 2007-08-14] Finally an MS Money/Quicken killer that works, I going on 2 years and spent $30 dollars. This software does EXACTLY what I need.
It is light, mature and robust, very stable and has a lot of features.
If you want to throw away $70 a year for software just to feel good, then this app is not for you.
Better than Quicken or Money [Posted on 2007-10-03] Finally, a real alternative to Quicken (with its arrogant attitude and total non-support) and Money. I have used Quicken for twenty years and Money for ten years and finally got fed up with crashes and zero response from Quicken and little help from Microsoft when these things happened. Moneydance imported thousands of my transactions from Quicken flawlessly and works totally smoothly. I love it!
Try the demo first [Posted on 2008-06-15] I downloaded the demo version for Mac OS 10.5; my quicken files imported easily. I downloaded the QIF file to update my Visa account, but most of my transactions were flagged as possible duplicates (even though they were all new). The interface was really clunky: Most transaction were entered one at a time after making a selection as what to do from a pop-up. My 100 transactions for the demo were quickly used up after several attempts to import and reconcile my statement. This SW is too cumbersome to use.
