Messy but fun... [Posted on 2008-01-12] Moonsand is much messier than they advertise, BUT, it is very easy to clean up. It doesn't stain and it vacuums easily and my kids love it. They spend hours playing with it. We have a couple different sets and this one is probably the least played with but they still like it. I recommend that you don't let little ones who still put things in their mouth use it.
Don't trust the commercials [Posted on 2008-01-14] My 4 year old likes and enjoys this product, and asks to play with it all the time, but I hate it. Its a huge mess, it doesn't work as well as the commercials, sure it does press into mold shape, but the second you take them out and try to handle it, it crumbles. It also stick to your hands a lot, so some goes down the drain with every use. Not to mention that it doesn't shake off your clothes like regular sand, so you have to choose between washing it by itself or risking it with other items. Overall I wish I had just said no to buying it.
Worth the money if on sale [Posted on 2008-03-25] My nine and six and a half year old kids saw the ads last December and informed me that this HAD to go on their wish lists. I had heard about the mess, so told them that they could not have any. Unfortunately, I didn't bother to tell my inlaws, so they bought the kids small packages for the holidays. I compromised with them, telling them they could play with it if they were outdoors.
Since then, I have come back to amazon to buy more twice, but only when it was on sale. They spend hours outside playing with it. It is extremely messy, kind of hard to clean off of cement (we have a cement "yard") and needs to be replaced, but if you catch the sales on the 7.5 lb bucket, it will last for a while. I wouldn't pay retail, though.
I also have a toddler, but he doesn't seem to get much fun out of it other than throwing it.
Be prepared for the Mess [Posted on 2008-07-30] Got this as a gift for our son. It is an artificial sand complete with molds and tools plus some added little toys. The sand have pretty candy colors and are very attractive. It is a lot of fun for the kids, but at the same time it is frustrating for them attempting to create critters with the molds as the sand crumbles very easily. It needs some help from grown-ups to press the mold harder to make a press. Still, once they hold them with their hands they crumbles.
It is just no way you can have this toy played inside the house especially near carpets or your couch. Be prepared for a big mess.
biggest mess ever [Posted on 2008-08-16] Buy moonsand only if you enjoy spending hours chiseling this stuff out of crevices, your child's shoes, the carpet, the patio, etc. It is by far the messiest toy we have gotten for our child. Far worse than play-doh or even regular sand. I will never buy it again!
