Unethical Netgear Does NOT Honor Warranties [Posted on 2007-09-06] The equipment is OK. I mean, not really much to go wrong since it's just a switch.
The problem is Netgear will not honor the supposed lifetime warranty. Worse is they have you on hold for ever, bounce you from one tech (sorry, they call them "engineers" - an insult to real engineers everywhere) to the next.
Finally they tell you the problem is software (even the power light does not illuminate yet somehow it's software, who'd a thunk it) and try and bill for premium support rates. When that was refused they hung up on me.
So, yes, Netgear stuff might seem like a good deal but be prepared to replace it on your own nickel when it fails (mine lasted 8 months).
Easy to get up and running [Posted on 2007-11-29] I purchased this because my existing hub didn't have enough ports. This one is great! Out of the box, plug in and carry on smartly. It has been troublefree and works flawlessly. I do power down those items plugged into it (extra network hard drives) when I do not need to access them for the rest of the day. They are closeby, so easy to restart. Have been very satisfied with this product.
Excellent Switch [Posted on 2007-12-22] This switch has greatly improved my network transfers. With a great warranty, I couldn't pass it up - plus, it was a great price for the number of ports.
I've had it for 4 months and not a single problem.
Great product [Posted on 2008-02-21] Netgear has become what Linksys was: a price performer. Great experience with this product so we bought a second one to use as a backup in an office where we have all sorts of switches. As the Linksys devices fail, we've been replacing them with Netgear and are much happier.
Rock Solid [Posted on 2008-07-13] Used it for the past 2 years as a LAN party switch. Rock solid, just about every other piece of networking equipment we've used (wireless routers ect.) has failed massively at one point or another, but this thing never skips a beat. Rock solid construction, it's lasted 2 years being hauled around from house to house on a weekly basis by a bunch of 18 year olds, what more can i say?
