Customer Reviews:

Don't believe the flames [Posted on 2006-08-19]
I have played EASports NHL 2000 and 2001 a lot. Loved 2001 - great gameplay and graphics. Based on the reviews here I bought NHL 2004 and NHL 2006. NHL 2004 is unplayable, terrible graphics and gameplay. DO NOT BOTHER BUYING OR INSTALLING NHL 2004. I played one game and uninstalled it.
I've played only a few games of NHL 2006 and here is my review:
(1) The graphics are outstanding. I am playing on a BFG GeForce 6200oc graphics card at highest level. Again, the graphics are outstanding.
(2) Gameplay seems great. Very smooth, realistic controls. On the easiest level I scored two goals against the computer zero, and neither was easily won. I have an older controller and will definitely be upgrading soon so that I can have more controls, but even with an old sidewinder controller, control is great and the game is fun to play.
(3) Some people suggest crashes and glitchy gameplay. I haven't had any crashed (on a very new computer). It does seem a tiny bit glitchy and the menus are difficult to navigate. But I was able to figure it out and set everything correctly and play games. Have not had one single crash (Windows XP Home, 2 Gigs memory, AMD 3400+).

I strongly recommend this game as reflective of the excellent game-play of older versions which I have played a lot and as compared with the un-playability of NHL 2004. Definitely worth $10 - I payed $15 and am very happy!!

For reference: I bought the 2004 5-Pack which included NBA Live 2004 which I have loved and which has excellent game-play, I threw Nascar 2004 in the garbage because it is unplayable, I have enjoyed Madden 2004 even though it doesn't blow me away. I'll let you know about Tiger Woods 2004 soon.

Good luck.

Great hockey game but too easy [Posted on 2006-08-20]
NHL 06 is a great hockey game.It has new features like R.P.M(realistic puck momentum),skill stick and many more. But one problem i had was how easy the game was like when my guy that had the puck was on one side, the opposint's goalie was on the same side.I passed my other guy on the other side and he scored. I have a advice for u EA,make NHL 07 have better ai.

Can't even play the game [Posted on 2006-09-08]
This is the last game I'll ever buy from EA Sports. Although my computer is not the most powerful in the world, it's not garbage, either. I can play Madden '06 with no problems. Why can't I play NHL '06? I would give this game a minus 10 if I could. Oh, and try to get your money back from EA. The game might be great for all I know but I can't get it to work at all because they say I have an intergrated graphics card on board. So what if I do? They could have still made the game work for people with on board graphics. Their incompetence is noted and I will in no way be robbed by EA again. I do not support them anymore. If you can even play this game, good for you. You just got lucky.

Another Decent EA Product [Posted on 2007-01-15]
Functionality has increased since my last NHL 2003. The only issue is that the wireless controllers i specifically bought for this item do not work as specified in the game. Since i do not know if this is the controllers fault or the games fault, it is difficult to comment on.
Overall I like the game and new layout. I rated 4 stars do to compatibility issues.

Fun [Posted on 2007-07-25]
This game is fun (after I bought a 50$ video card).
The skill stick is kind of repetative because you score the same goals over and over again and you are sure to get a goal if you use it.
After you score a goal the water bottle almost always get's knocked off of the top of the net even though the puck was no where near it. I mean on the box it said realistic puck momentum, but this is nowhere near realistic. In this game there is no vibration and the scores are way out of realism.
If you can buy this game on PS2, do it. My friend has this game on his PS2 and the vibration is good, plus most games the score is 3-2 not 10-9. You also don't have to pay 50$ on a new video card.
The checking system is well done. Skate into someone for a small hit, skate into them and press button 4 for a bigger hit and skate into them and hold button 4 for the biggest hit.
The highlight reel is good because you can see a goal from a bunch of different directions. I haven't played NHL 07, but let's hope EA can create a better game in NHL 08 DVD.
