A Must have for racers [Posted on 2004-06-15] I was drawn to this game because of the cars and the customizations available, and I was highly satisfied. There are so many options in this game, most of which you will enjoy, and you even get bonuses for having a pimped out ride. While I think sound system parts and interior upgrades would have ben nice, the custommization of cars is a game inside itself. The actual game is almost as fun, the racing is fast paced, action packed, and so much fun. However the keyboard controls are soem what clunky, and steering with the left and right arrows just doesnt cut it very well. This is quickly remedied with a steering wheel or USB controller. I recommend this to anyone who likes cars and raceing games. And at $18 there isn't a reason not to pick this one up.
i paid $50 for nothing [Posted on 2004-07-14] this game is not even worthy of the need for speed title. this game sucks, the graphics are horrid compaired to hot pursuit, the best car is a 350z (35k bux) compair that to a mcclairen from nfshp, and the courses are all the same. let me break this game down. cars. in this game you start with a neon or a miata. i found this really stupid because a neon is worth 10k or less and the miata is worth 30k+. you work your way up by buying new cars and parts. what sucks about that is you can keep any begining car and have upgraded to the same level as the cars you later unlock. i used a lancer and stuck with it the whole time. this is a huge mistake because a neon will not out perform a 350z. all of the cars are the kind that are cheep and seen every where. this makes you aprutiate some these cars better (as i have with the lancer) but in nfshp2 you start off with an elise and work up to 300k cars. this game neede a viper an m5 a 67' gto, and a 65' mustang. these cars SUCK!!!!!!!!!! 1.5 of 5 drive the driving is just as bad the cars seem to be standing still as the track rolls past you. the back grounds are all the same so they cant even make that look good. having the cops would have been awesome because i live in dc i know that street racing is ilegel. this would have made the game alot more worth while.2 game the game does have a good thing or two though. the new modes drift and drag are cool because you actually feel the cars. the game has 100+ races so it lasts awhile but after 40 i started to dread playing this game. 2 ugghhhhh........
Oh so addictive! [Posted on 2004-09-25] So I thought the demo was okay... no great shakes. I downloaded it, played for maybe a half-hour and then blew it off my system. Then they kept advertising it cheap where I work, so I picked up a copy.
The full version is awesome! I love "drifting", the drag races, last man standing races and the circuit racing. I could watch the into (where they show the parts materializing on the car as it's racing) over and over again.
This game is best played with a controller (although I was kicking butt on my keyboard, I got a logitech daul-action (playstation style) controller and it's gotten to be a lot easier to play (mostly from the lack of having to find which button does what)
Also, the higher you push the graphics, the more cool stuff happens. At the highest levels, instead of a pole-position-esque traffic light, you get a babe or two to start you off. Also, you can get the city's lights reflecting off your hood and a lot of other little stuff.
There's only a couple reasons why I gave it less than perfect scoring.
This is the PC version here. Where's the "MP3" folder where I can listen to something besides the stuff they preloaded?
The other thing is the overly-done "crash scenes". I ended up being reminded of the "Blues Brothers" (the part where their cop car flips through the air) when I hit a truck at about 180. It literally did flips as it soared, ever-so-gracefully, in slow motion way up high in the sky. No damage of course, but all in all, it gets annoying to watch when you're trying to catch up (or keep the lead) and the camera angles and slow-mo action are crimpin' your style.
All in all, it's an awesome game. Great for anybody who enjoys a good racing game. I'm looking forward to NFS:U 2!
Needs Better Cars For Speed [Posted on 2004-10-03] The game and graphics were pretty darn good but they need a better choice of cars. This game would have gotton 5 stars if I could drive a 1969 Hemi'cuda, or any other good car (cars made from real metal, hence, made in the '60's). But over all worth $18.00.
Great game [Posted on 2004-10-10] This a great game if you like to drive fast cars. You can pass and get different tracks and your skill is improving while you are winning reputation.
The scenes are inside many places in a city (at night) and you can get new cars and customize them.
Only one Con: You don't have police cars behind you, maybe this reduces your emotion inside the game.
