A bunch of features you'll never need & missing features you'll wish you had. [Posted on 2008-01-10] 1. No SSL or SSH support. Clear text authentication only to the device... SUCKS
2. Sure it states support for 802.1Q, however there is NO TRUNKING support. You'll literally need to uplink directly to each VLAN in order to Route. USELESS
3. Support is horrendous. I contacted tier 1 w/ my question & they had no idea what I was talking about. They referred me to Tier 2 which is PPI! I hung up, called again for biz services & spoke w/ someone who had a bit more knowledge than the last tech but basically (after a lengthy explanation) confirmed my suspicion.
Although you get what you pay for, Dell has a managed, PowerConnect line which is comparable in price but offers more Enterprise Level features, including Trunk support. Netgear does take the lead w/ its unbeatable warranty but is lacking on several features which matter the most. Obviously not an Enterprise level solution & strictly for SOHO. Who gives a crap about VLAN support if you can't route over a Trunk.
If these features are of no interest to you but still require Gigabit connectivity, I'd lean towards the un-managed GS108 which is practically 1/2 the price.
It works - what else can I say [Posted on 2008-07-20] I'm a satisfied Netgear user - I've been using their product (mostly switches) for a few years now and I have no complaints - they do an excellent job at an excellent price.
I bought this particular switch so that I could play around with gigabit ethernet and jumbo frame, and it seems to be as effective as any of the other Netgear switches I have used in the past.
Many features, works as intended [Posted on 2008-08-25] No complaints - wide range of features, setup was simple.(disclaimer: I'm a tech geek, though I think the basic features wouldn't require much specialized knowledge to get working.)
