Finally, the single-player NWN experience is realized [Posted on 2004-07-01]
This is the Bioware game we all were waiting for. In quality, it's up there with their classics like the Baldur's Gate games. The added general features are also much worth the admission: several interesting Prestige Classes and the ability to advance to "Epic" levels above level 20, as well as more detailed models and builder tools. As a Mac user, you don't get to directly experience the added toolset flexibility, but the many modules and online games that use it will make it worthwhile.

An excellent expansion.

I liked the Udrentide better but still a great expansion. [Posted on 2004-09-03]
I like The Shadows of Undrentide better than this expansion but this one still has a lot to offer. You go the through about 4 different levels of Underdark fighting hoardes of new enemys. You can level up to level 40 which is great (undrentide is 20). This is a great expansion pack. Again the only problem is if u played NWN on a less powerful computer, the system requirements are:Macintosh computer running OSX v10.2.8 or higher, 800MHz G4 or faster processor (1.2GHz or faster recommended), 256MB RAM, 32MB or higher (NVIDIA GeForce 2/ATI Radeon recommended) video card, 1.2GB free hard drive space, 8X CD-ROM drive, local area network, with TCP/IP protocol or established internet connection for multiplayer (56 Kbps modem or faster required). So if you meet those requirements and own NWNs buy this expansion. Also purchase The Shadows of Undrentide as well.

You cannot miss this! [Posted on 2004-09-26]
Hordes of the Underdark takes you on a long beautifull journey; it is the Bioware game you always wanted, while The Shadows of Undrentide could be for some somehow a disappointment, with this game you do not take that risk . In quality, it's up there with classics like the Baldur's Gate and Diablo games.
Nice Prestige Classes and the ability to advance to "Epic" levels, nice in game items.
There is a good Mac community on the Bioware site, a lot of modules made by players and Bioware, guarantees you tons of hours of playing.
A must have in my opinion.
Remember this is an expansion.

A few quirks aside, really a great game [Posted on 2006-02-13]
I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy this game. A friend and I played the Neverwinter Nights together and really enjoyed it. We wanted to continue on with the same characters; but the first expansion, Shadows of Undrentide, makes you start with a new character. So, we skipped Shadows and went straight to Hordes. First, let me say that skipping Shadows doesn't seem to have mattered. You never feel lost in the storyline. The two games must share very little plot.
Second, I was very pleased to notice a significant gain in the quality of the graphics and gameplay. Not that Neverwinter was a slouch. The game is a little old now, so my relatively new 1.6Ghz PowerMac G5 with 64MB VRAM and 2.5GB RAM handles it readily on max settings. My friend, running a 867MHz G4 with 32MB VRAM occasionally runs into some slowing even though we both have cable broadband.
We've encountered few problems, but the most annoying is exclusive to multiplayer. At certain times in the game, a 3D graphics movie will run with some dialog. However, it will only play for the lead character. If the other player is lucky, he can still run around and act. A few of times, he is unlucky and has to stare at a black screen through the movie and the fight that ensues. This never happened in Neverwinter.
I find the replay value is good, especially since I feel taht the puzzles are pretty easy even the first time but live for the tough fights. I've played it through twice with different characters and have enjoyed exploring with different character attributes. Before I play it again, I will probably buy Shadows and start a new character off there.
