Disappointing [Posted on 2007-11-21] Olympus 202032 H-1 GB xD Picture Card (Retail Package)
The card was dead out of the package. The Olympus camera I bought it for was also a disappointment, I returned both of them for credit.
My next camera will probablt be a Canon with SD memory, which is much more common.
Bad Xd card [Posted on 2008-03-31] Don't buy this version of Xd card. I have had to send two of them back to Olympus. They did replace the card without difficulty but they sent the same crummy H type card. If you use this card in a card reader there is a high chance that it will corrupt the card and crash your computer. When I complained to Olympus they told me "oh you should not use a type H card in a card reader." If you need an Xd card get a type M card.
Not really worth it [Posted on 2008-04-30] This lets you get the special features of your Olympus camera, but really isn't that much faster, since my camera can take multiple shots and then write to the card. When I bought this it was overpriced, but they seem to have come down a lot.
Not so great.... 2 Stars are generous... [Posted on 2008-07-09] After about ten uses in my compatible Fuji FinePix A500 the card won't format in the camera or computer. The last time is was used the batteries in the camera died while shooting, so I'm thinking that might have something to do with it.... Not worth the hassle... SD and CF cards have my future business...
Small, But Not Big Enough... [Posted on 2008-07-11] Contrary to a lot of common opinion, as a user of xD cards I'm more than happy with their performance. Originally lauded for their smaller physical dimensions, they now seem to be derided for their (alleged) minimal capacities. For me, 2GB is just fine. If I get a major glitch during an image file transfer or in the field, I'd prefer to lose 100 pics rather than 800 pics! And yes; it can happen.
I'd rather use four 2GB cards than a single 8GB card any day, which really negates the "small capacity" argument in my opinion.
Similarly for the xD's often-quoted "slow" transfer rate. Using a card reader, do I really care whether it takes me 3 minutes or 6 minutes to transfer my pics to my PC? Not really; I'm not in that much of a panic! Price-wise, xD cards are now almost level pegging with SD cards - admittedly a couple of years ago that wasn't the case. Nowadays, their price differential is immaterial.
The major advantage of the "Olympus" branded cards is their ability to enable increased burst mode and panorama stitching in Olympus' cameras. Quality-wise, SanDisk et al are their equal - if you don't need their increased image handling capabilities.
Finally, for some obscure reason (known only to the Olympus and Fujifilm marketing departments!), larger capacities than 2GB have never been released commercially, although test lab prototypes of up to 8GB have been trialled successfully. Who knows why?
