Compares to projectors that cost twice as much [Posted on 2008-06-09] After missing out on a great Day After Thanksgiving deal on a projector, I had already decided to buy one and this was the only one in my price range. I have not been disappointed. I used an S-Video connection and the picture was always bright and sharp. The windows in our "theatre" room are to the west, so it was difficult to see in the afternoon without dark curtains, but looked great at night, even with gas fireplace going right next to it. My father and brother-in-law both purchased projectors for 2x and 3x the cost whose bulbs burnt out within the first year. After 1.5 years of similar usage, I still have had no problems with my bulb. For the price, this one is great. Although there are no true HD cable connections, I am still not convinced that there is a noticeable difference with projectors. I went to BB and looked at their top of the line $7000 model. It looked just as sharp as this one from home. The only problem I have had is that the remote sensor went out on it a couple week after mounting it on the ceiling. I called and Optoma offered to ship and repair it for free, but I could stand not having it for the turn around time, so I just dealt with the flaky sensor. Occasionally it would work, but I usually just reached up and touched the power button. Once it was setup initially, the remote really wasnt necessary except for turning the projector on and off. Only once did it over heat after a day long marathon in the summer time. We shut it down just long enough for a snack and then it started working fine again. I am very please after moderate usage of this project and would recommend it to friend as a great home theater projector.
