PC-Cilln Inertnet Security Not Compatiable with XP SP2 [Posted on 2004-10-18]
I downloaded a copy of PC-Cillin Internet Security and it would not allow my computer to access my internet connection. Trend Micro Tech Support informed me that their firewall is not compatible with Windows XP SP2 and needs to be removed for the software to work.

A patch is planned for the future, but for now I opted for a refund on the software.

Good overall internet security package [Posted on 2004-11-02]
I tried demo versions of several internet security packages, and this one seemed to be the best, based on features, usability and value, so it was an easy choice. I've found that it's pretty easy to use, and it's good at staying up-to-date on the latest virus definitions.

Oh, and I have Windows XP Professional with SP2, and it works great, so I'm not sure what the other reviewer's issue was. I use the anti-virus and firewall features of PC-cillin, no problems at all.

It was voted the best Antivirus for a reason [Posted on 2004-11-22]
That reason is that it is true. I have been working on computers for 14 years and I recommend NOTHING but PC-cillin. My customers have had problem after problem with Norton and McAfee. In my pinion, Norton is the worst antivirus program on the market.

I personally used PC-cillin 2000 four FOUR years before I had to finally upgrade. Updates were free for the entire time the company supported the 2000 program. I would still be using it except that the virus definitions had to be renumbered.

Let me repeat a bit more clearly about a point I made - UPDATES WERE FREE. Unlike Norton, McAfee and some of the others, I did NOT have to repurchase every year. I got four years use from one purchase.

During the time I have been using PC-cillin, I have not had a single virus get past it. This goes all the way back to the earlier versions as well. I have been using Trend Micro products since 1996 and am extremely pleased. Their customer service leaves a bit to be desired, but the only reason I contacted them was to test the service they provide. I have actually NOT had a reason other than that to contact them.

If you are not a total idiot, setting up the program is a breeze. One thing you should ALWAYS do - set it so that it DELETES infected emails. DO NOT TRY TO CLEAN THEM - DELETE THEM. Don't take a chance.

If you set this thing up correctly, you will absolutely LOVE it. By the way, I don't know why that one guy Brian says that he was told PC-cillin will not work with XP-SP2. I have it and it works fine. You just have to know how to set up the firewall. For one thing, SP2 comes with its OWN firewall. Just in case you don't know, computers DO NOT LIKE TWO FIREWALLS TO BE RUNNING AT THE SAME TIME. You need to either disable the firewall in XP-SP2 or the one in PC-cillin. I disabled the one that came with the service pack as I like my antivirus program to be all it can be. :-)

To sum up: I give the program 5 of 5 stars for functionality, ease of use, price, and just for the fact that it is a damn good program.

Stick with McAfee or Norton [Posted on 2005-03-17]
At first, I thought it was great too. My computer seemed to be virus-free, and even thought the updates took forever because I am on dial up, I wasn't too worried.

Then it went downhill, a virus got through. Ok, I thought, these things happen. I was not too happy about the 8 hours it took to fix my machine and get everything cleaned & reset up.

Then another virus got past the firewall, not so much as a bleep. The computer was scanned by Micro Trend and it showed no virus. There was NO doubt that there was a virus on the machine and after doing a little research on-line I found it was an older virus (from 2002 I think), so my Micro Trend should have had the virus definition for it & should have found it.

I uninstalled Micro Trend and installed McAfee. McAfee found 7 viruses/infected files (including the referenced virus above)!!! SEVEN!!!
Needless to say, my computer runs much faster & better now.

I will not be installing or purchasing anything else by Micro Trend.

Better than others I've tried. [Posted on 2006-10-23]
I'd used MacAfee and Norton and then I purchased Trend Micro, per the recommendation from Consumer Reports. I have to tell you that it was a fantastic buy! I had it for two years and it worked flawlessly. And, like many others have said, you practically don't even notice it is there.

Last month, I was told about ZoneLabs, that this was a better product, so I purchased it and left Trend Micro. But it was a mistake. My computer is now much slower and it keeps asking me about certain programs that are trying to access my computer, even though I tell it everytime to "remember this setting". I should have stayed with Trend Micro, and will return to them when my 1-yr prescription is up with ZoneLabs.
