Works well... but TOO LOUD [Posted on 2007-10-04] Full of power, but also full of wind once you get a game going that puts it to work.
If you can handle the loud fan, you will get good game performance. Personally, I think more attention needs to be put to the noise factor in today's mainstream GPUS.
Beautiful Video Card! [Posted on 2007-12-17] This card works like a charm on my new computer... I have a Samsung SyncMaster 206BW 20" Monitor (1680x1050) and it works really nice on the maximum resolution. Under linux it has a very good performance too, nVidia is making a very good job on supporting linux users. This card literally "Flies". With this card you can play any game released to date, so don't be scared anymore by setting graphic/phisics settings to low, since it's going to perform very very fast under heavy loads... Beautiful Card... Before you buy though, verify that your case/motherboard support this card since this device is an investment. Overall, it's just plain beautiful, what else can you ask ?
Not Great Performance and the Card Failed [Posted on 2007-12-28] I had super high hopes for this card, but there is way better at the same price or less. Cut to the chase, this card is a monster, it's long, it's wide (2 full slots wide), it's power hungry, and it runs very hot. You should really consider the 8800 GT series, more to point, the BFG 8800 GT 512Mb OC2 - it's one slot wide, runs cool, is not horribly power hungry, and works really well.
The PNY GTS card did run for about two or three days. I had a lot of trouble installing it, drivers didn't cooperate very well, boot times were really long, and it seemed to just plain confuse my computer. Dirt did not run very smoothly, Madden 08 ran well, and Trackmania United ran jerky. It did play DVD's rather well and smoothly. Honestly, I was expecting full out max on all programs with smooth performance. Instead I had to compromise on all three of these games.
Then the worst set in, the card started scrambling video during POST and into windows. After about 4 to 10 boots it would finally work for the day. Then three days later it just flat out quit working, I had four racing strips down the middle of my screen. PNY support was a real pain, they have M-F hours only, no email support, and the website is impossible to find anything. Since there were no replacements in stock, I was forced to find a different card. Thank you for lack of stock - the BFG card is way better, installed easily, less money, and it works great in my computer.
Just cannot recommend this card, or any 8800 GTS today. Those GT cards are killers.
Good card, but too wide for my mid tower [Posted on 2008-01-08] The video card meet the hype, however the card was too wide for my Antec P183 ATX Mid tower computer case! The card is 2/8 to 3/8 of an inch above the slots width after seating the card (yes, in all the way). I got around it by using two of the disk drive screws to secure the card to the box but this is the first time this has ever happened. So if you're planning to buy this card make sure it's going to fit into the box before you buy it or have some long screws on hand.
Excellent Product [Posted on 2008-01-08] This is an excellent graphics card. But be aware it will take 2 slots a PCI express slot and probably a PCI slot next to it to accommodate the size of the board and fan.
It can generate a lot of heat which will be exhausted out the back and possibly sucked back into the tower causing a heat concern. I am using a Dell 4700 3.2 GHz Pentium 4. Cooling is a concern, but it is working and I am being careful to monitor how high the CPU fan is running.
