RAM not detected [Posted on 2006-07-30] I read complaints about PNY's RAM reliability, but I placed my faith in PNY and made a purchase. The problem: the RAM module could not be detected by the computer.
I've performed multiple RAM upgrades in the past, and all of them were successful prior to this one. I've also triple-checked that this RAM model is compatible with my notebook, and according to Crucial.com and PNY's own configurator, my exact notebook model is compatible (not just the model family).
I also checked for dust. I swapped slot places for the existing/new RAM modules, and only the original RAM was detected. And when I attempted to use only the new PNY RAM module, the computer rebooted and rebooted and rebooted at the BIOS stage.
The RAM module could be defective, but I'm steering away from PNY after this experience.
review for purchase [Posted on 2007-01-09] memory works just fine! No problem receiving item. No problems at all
Worked for me [Posted on 2007-04-23] I bought memory online before and had a problems like those described here and had to return it. So this time I went to Best Buy because they had this for $40 and it was either an upgrade speeded things up or I bought a new computer.
It took about 6 tries to get the memory to work- for some reason my Hp requires a bit of finesse to get the memory to make proper contact. I was beginning to believe the other reviews and was mentally preparing to return it before I finally got it to boot up. But once it was in I couldn't believe how well it worked; and now that I know they make stuff like NVidia graphics cards I feel even better. Would have saved the tax and gas money with Amazon.
Memory upgrade for Dell desktop went fine [Posted on 2007-06-07] Product was securely packaged, installed without problem, computer found memory without problem, system performance improved as expected.
A pox upon PNY [Posted on 2007-10-24] I bought mine at Best Buy, taking it home thinking it would lead to a fun, exciting new world of computer graphics. What I got was a nightmare, a virtual roller coaster ride to hell. Well, not so much virtual because I couldn't even get the dang thing to work.
Like others who posted here, my card was defective. I did everything to give it the benefit of the doubt. I cleaned out the memory slots. It wouldn't run. I took it out and ran my computer with the original card. It worked fine. I used only the new card. It didn't work. I used both. It wouldn't run. I switched places between the two and tried variations there. It still wouldn't run. I went online to make sure that I was using the right kind for my computer. PNY's own website said that it should for all intents and purposes be working, and was more than compatible. I check four or five times just to make sure the error was not on my part.
Needless to say, I was angry. The only good part about my little story is when I went to Best Buy to return it and told them it was defective they returned my money without question. Do not make my mistake - save yourself! Get something else! Just forget the possibility of combining the letters P, N and Y! Find salvation! RUN!
