Worked for me [Posted on 2007-05-28] I bought this memory becuase Amazon was one of the cheapest and PNY is a reputable memory supplier. I could not find this memory in the store anymore and needed it for my aging HP laptop. It's worked well for me and, as always, Amazon was nice to buy through.
Awful Memory. Unreliable and shoddy [Posted on 2007-07-26] Purchased a SO-DIMM for my Apple PowerBook G4 and as soon as I re-booted into the Finder and tried to do work the Mac crashed -- first time in 4 years. Shocking to say the least. After more than 8 hrs of trouble-shooting, determined that it had to be the SO-DIMM that was at fault.
Had the memory tested by an authorised Apple repair centre and was told it was faulty. Sent the SO-DIMM back to Amazon for replacement. Installed replacement SO-DIMM and experience same crashing events: The PowerBook would sit there for a few minutes and then, for no apparent reason, crash. This is useless, sub-par memory.
Ended-up buying Other World Computing memory instead and after installing it, stress-tested the PowerBook G4. No problems after 24hrs of continuous testing.
PNY is clearly a manufacturer to be avoided at all costs.
Fit well, worked great [Posted on 2007-10-15] Fit well, worked great. Much cheaper than official IBM memory even though I am an IBM employee and get a discount. Fast shipping.
Works in a Pinch [Posted on 2008-01-23] The memory seems to work fine for my laptop. I needed it to allow my wife to use it on her extended business trip. I am not sure she has used the laptop much, but the memory sure helped make things faster while I was getting it ready for the trip.
It is a Toshiba brand laptop that previously only had 256 MB of RAM and could not handle XP Service Pack two. With the memory I decided to try to roll out SP2 again, along with other Toshiba updates and it appears to be working fine.
The memory upgrade has appeared to extend the usefulness of the laptop to my family and I.
The shipping and packaging were all as expected with no concerns in those departments.
This has the potential to be a five rating, but since the product is relatively new to use, I can only rate it a four at this time. If it is still working in 4 months...it would be a five.
Failed Memory Diagnostic Program [Posted on 2008-04-09] I tested the sodimm chip using a memory diagnostic tool from MicroSoft. It failed. Amazon replaced it and the second chip also failed.
Both chips seemed to work in my compute but randomly the system would lock up. The computer had to be reset and rebooted.
If you have trouble, download a free copy of the "Windows Memory Diagnostic" tool from the MS web site.
