1 + 1 less than 2 [Posted on 2008-03-20]
Hmmmmm

nVidia has a very aggressive product schedule recently and creates many confusion. To simplify, let me do a formula presentation.

1. 9800GX2 = 2 8800GTS which not equals to Next Generation Technology
2. 9800GX2 < 8800GTS 512mb SLi (slower)
3. 9800GX2 $$ > TWO 8800GTS 512mb $$ (more expensive)

1. Whether it's a new generation technology might not be an issue for most people as long as it could dominate the current graphic card competition. Several reviews suggest that 9800GX2 does deliver what it was supposed to do. But what makes it so confused is it's not a choice between Starbucks Grande and Venti Latte. When you upgrade from Grande to Venti Latte, you know you would have 20% gain which equals to absolute 4oz value. 9800GX2 would give you mix result that won't justify the amount of dollars you invest vs. performance gain or improve.
2. Since it's based on G92, you won't anticipate a huge leap (compare with G92) and here's where nVidia drops the ball; if 9800GX2 is stocking two 8800 GTS 512 together, Customers would want to see better performance and less money. In reality, 8800GTS 512mb SLi outperformed 9800GX2 in every game.
3. If 9800GX2 is cheaper, it would make sense to buy. Currently, it is priced around $599. Last week, you can get a 8800GTS for $230. So basically you have two options. A: pay $490 with better performance or B: pay $599 with less performance. Starbucks never attempted to sell a product called Doppio Grande which charges you more than two cups of Grande Latte but it comes with less than two cups because I guess they seriously think it might not work.

In financial engineering world, create confusion product is the key to sustain the market. nVidia's attempt of launching 9800GX2 fails to accomplish that. It was too easy for customers to figure out the relative price point on a performance/price chart. Until 9800GX2 dropped below the price of two 8800GTS, there's really no point to consider this product an upgrade/purchase option.

AWESOME [Posted on 2008-06-05]
hey,
the other guys review does not make sense but even though you buy this card compatability and hdmi is a big thing, the 8800s in sli are good but they heat up and the frames arent perfect. at some point these cards will be $450 with a tri sli patch so people can have better gaming experience.
buy one now and you wont have to buy it later. its worth the buy i promise.m going to upload a video about it eventually

The best [Posted on 2008-08-25]
The Video card is so cooollll. It has 1 GB GDDR 3 memory, even it has two powerful GPU cores. It runs so quietly and it's the perfect solution for your desktop computer. Try it !

Beware [Posted on 2008-09-15]
I purchased 3 of these cards from another vendor to build 3 identical new systems. One of the cards failed out of the box. One was perfect and the other shows signs of having an issue. Returned the bad one and ordered a replacement from Amazon.

The card is a brick! Use screws to secure it, do not rely on plastic holders in your case.

Spec-wise this is a great card but the replacement card I ordered from Amazon had the same issue(s) as the one I returned to the original vendor.

I am an experienced system builder and have always used Nvidia based chipsets.

The problems with this card (in my situation) was most likely a finicky issue between my new system and this card... I have been using an older 6800 and 7800 in my new system since having the GX2 problems.

I opted to just go all out, returned this one and ordered a GTX 280.

I'm not warning anyone away from this card... I'm just saying that it might be very picky about the system. Technically we're batting 1 out of 4 so far.
