Excellent with but one exception! [Posted on 2002-05-03] I purchased a Palm IIIx about 31/2 years ago and as a result of its many uses and somewhat rough handling (my wife and I both shared the IIIx) we figured it was time to get a second unit. The IIIx's only drawback was that it had difficulty keeping the date which had to be reset periodically. Palm sent me two additional models as the failure occurred within the 1st year. The date snag continues to be a problem. We have learned to ignore this glitch and have chalked it up to "design flaw." Other than that, the Palm functioned perfectly. It may be a "slightly flawed warhorse," but is that not true of all of us? The price has dropped about $150.00 since my original purchase. 4 megs is a lot of space and I keep a few "encyclopedic" sources on the Palm for easy reference. Computer transer of data (Windows 2000) is simple, seamless and accurate. The unit has been upgraded by innumerable models with many more bells and whistles. If you personal needs require all the additional "crunchy whoopees," another model may be best for you (no antennas on this one)."A Final Aside": 31/2 years of hard daily 'two-person use' has made its present function a little slower and rougher than when it was new. I shall send it out for a "possible" repair. If the repair costs are not worth the investment and with the price for a new IIIx being excellent, I shall likely obtain a new model and retire the old with highest honors.
5 Years and Going Strong! [Posted on 2005-03-15] I have had my Palm IIIx for almost 5 years now, and it is still working as well as the day I bought it! I am more than satisfied with Palm products, and am currently looking into a Tungsten as an upgrade. The Windows based palmtops are nice too, but they cannot beat the Palm's reliability and ease of use. The software is also very stable and easy to use. This is the only device of its kind I own that has never lost data or become corrupted. Reliability goes a long way with me, so I give it 5 stars!
let down again [Posted on 2005-04-29] THIS IS THE SECOND pALM 111X i HAVE PURCHASED ALTHOUGH THE FIRST FROM AMAZON AND, TRUE TO FORM THE DEVICE HAS SIMPLY STOPPED WORKING. My LIFE is in this machine and it is frozen! I never will touch anything made by PALM again and I am sorry that AMAZON could not have prevented this.
Mislead [Posted on 2005-12-24] I purchased the Palm IIIX because I thought that it had an open expansion slot for addition of memory upgrade cards. I wasn't able to locate the expansion slot for additional memory, so, I contacted Palm. The customer representative stated that it is only upgradeable as far as the operating system is concerned. You aren't able to use an additional memory card for this handheld.
I have been able to download some applications to the handheld, but, I would have preferred more memory.
Waste of money [Posted on 2007-01-22] It was big mistake of mine. Firs of all I had to buy cable to connect it to my new laptop. And the worst thing was that as soon as battery dies all of the information from PalmOne was gone and I had to sync information back again. I do not use this product.
