I wish I had known [Posted on 2006-12-21] I have been a Palm owner for two years. I had to replace my Tungsten T3 because after two years the battery died and it is not replaceable. Because I use Apple computers, I'm really stuck using PALM products. I do enjoy graffiti 2 and the OS. I just wish that PALM would create better hardware.
With that said, I decided to buy the Z22 because after two years, I realized that I used Bluetooth two times, never used the expansion slot, and I new I would never use the Wi-Fi capabilities (which I understand don't seem to be very compatible with most wireless networks anyway). When deciding to purchase the Z22, I figured that since I was buying a newer product, I would at least get the quality that my T3 had, less the bells and whistles. Boy was I wrong!
To start, the color resolution on the screen is drastically worse than the T3. I'm not sure why they choose to market that you can put your photos on the Z22. The ones that come with the machine, which were most likely adjusted for maximum clarity, are very pixilated and blurred. It actually gives me a slight headache to try and use the Z22.
The speed of the Z22 is much, much slower than my old T3. The Z22 sometimes takes seconds to process the most minute of tasks. For example, I've ended up repeating characters using graffiti 2 because I thought it wasn't recognizing my strokes. Instead, it was just taking a really long time to think about the letter I had written three times and I end up with three of the same letter on the screen. With the T3, I had immediate response to what I wrote. I'm not sure what processor the T3 had but it was much faster.
In the same vein, the touch screen is not very sensitive at all. I feel as though I am scraping the screen in order to get a response.
I have only worked with the Z22 for about five minutes and figured out these, what I deem to be, extreme problems. I do not recommend this product if you are used to a higher quality PALM, Windows Pocket PC, or a base level Computer monitor or laptop screen. It is definitely not worth the money. I have seen $20.00 handheld games with better resolution and reaction time than this $100.00 paperweight.
Got Vista Don't bother! [Posted on 2008-06-14] Nice unit, small and compact.
But....this thing does NOT seem to like Windows Vista.
Will not download the photo software from the CD. Palm Customer Service is less than helpful.
May have to return this junk and get something that actually works as advertised.
Great Product [Posted on 2008-06-16] I have to say I am loving my Z22 Palm! I've had it for a little over a month by now. I have had no problems with it like other reviews had mentioned, and I use it every day for everything that requires organizing and keeping up to date.(calendar, grocery lists, appoinments, addresses, to do list, quick reminders, you name it.. it can do it...) I am just mad I did not buy something like this years earlier. It is so easy to use and so many programs you can add to it. I will never go back to a paper calendar organizer ever again. I do recommend the screen protectors because the screen will get scratch if left inside a purse unprotected. The only thing negative about it is that I am still looking for something that will cover the screen when not in use so that the screen is not out in the open all the time, but besides from that it has been a great product.I definately recommed to anyone who still uses an organizer book-calendar.
Excellent! [Posted on 2008-07-09] I love my Palm! I am finally organized. I think it's a great system with just the right programs for me. I would suggest it to anyone who has a small business and is trying to stay on top of it, and life too! I LOVE IT!
Perfect for my needs [Posted on 2008-07-20] The Palm Z22 is exactly what I was looking for. I wasn't interested in getting a smart phone because that's just one more thing that could go wrong, but I needed to break away from the paper organizers I've been using. This is small and does just what I need it to do, for an excellent price. I would recommend this to anyone looking to make their organization a little easier.
