Customer Reviews:

Durability Problems [Posted on 2001-07-06]
This is a decent machine marred by serious build problems. The quality of faxes sent & received is fine for a home office machine and the array of features is also fine. My problem is with the poor build quality of this unit. Unlike most Panasonic products which are generally durable, the construction quality of this machine is below par. I have experienced the same paper feed problem referred to by other reviewers whereby the machine thinks it is out of paper and asks you to move the flimsy lever to restart printing. It beeps loudly and annoyingly until you do this. My next fax will not be a Panasonic.

Acceptable for the price [Posted on 2001-08-17]
The quality of faxes are good and as readable as any other I have seen in this price range. The audio quality of the telephone and the speaker phone are good. The copy function works well, but is an expensive use of the film. I found it easy to get into Panasonic tech support, and they were quite friendly and helpful. There are only two complaints. First, the recorded outgoing message, when recorded through the onboard microphone, is quite poor. Accessing it remotely and recording the message through a telephone gave me better results. Secondly, it is so loaded with features and the manual so big it was a bit overwhealming to initially set it up.

Good capability - problems with paper feeding [Posted on 2001-09-20]
I bought this fax two weeks ago for it's ability to serve many functions: aside from being a fax it's also a copier (although this is some what expensive), an answering machine (that can tell the difference between a fax and a regular call), a speaker phone (with the usual options), and a caller ID display. I am very happy with these functions and with the simplicity with which the fax is programmed. I would also like to mention that the phone handset is comfortable, the speakerphone works well, as does the digital answering machine. I especially like the little things like the caller ID list which I can zip through and dial the numbers of people who called me just by pressing the speakerphone button and the verbal instructions the fax gives me when I perform certain tasks.
The one thing I do not like about this product is the way the paper feeder functions; the paper tray is erect and does not have an adjusting apparatus, this causes the paper to shift when it is being fed which sometimes results in jams. The first time I encountered the problem was the day I received the fax so I immediately took it to the place I got it and had it replaced (before that I also tried switching paper but that also didn't help). Unfortunately the problem appeared again with the new fax and so not wanting to return it because of all the other wonderful functions, I decided to try to be a little creative and glued a small piece of plastic on the paper feeder - this solved the problem but now I can only use A4 paper (which is OK by me). To summarize things, I like the fax very much aside from the feeding problem I mentioned. I think the guys at Panasonic could fix this problem in two seconds (I know I have) and it's a shame I had to buy the product and deal with this kind of problem, especially since this is foremost a fax!

A Poorly made Machine [Posted on 2001-12-27]
I agree with those that classify this as a"piece of junk"! A small tab on the left side broke off and the lid does not close properly. This is part of the entire bottom assembly which is is one piece molded plastic. The part is [an amount] but Panosonic tech people say it's almost impossible to replace unless you have training. They will fix it for [an amount]. plus shipping. What a deal. Ray Ferrari

Great as a paper weight [Posted on 2002-04-29]
I bought this fax in spite of all the bad reviews I read here and on other sites. After two weeks of very gentle use the paper got jammed while receiving a fax. I made sure that the paper is straight in the tray, and that the pages are free to move, but it didn't help. Now it gets jammed every time I receive a fax!
Bottom line: it may have great features (answering machine, caller ID, etc.), but the main "feature" I bought it for - the FAX - doesn't work! A useless machine.
