Simply the Best -- Better Than all the Rest [Posted on 2008-02-09] This is the best phone system I've ever owned. It's absolutely perfect for me. It takes a little time and patience to program, but its well worth it. No more ugly ringing. All 6 phones play my current favorite song for incoming calls, then announces the name of the caller. Now how wonderful is that! No more scrambling for my reading glasses to see who's calling. I've assigned individual songs for each of my friends and family, so as soon as I hear their song, I know exactly who's calling me. Not to mention that their picture also appears on each handset screen. I've also assigned different wallpaper (from my collection art and personal photos stored on my computer) to each handset so I always know at a glance what room the handset belongs in.
I loved the phones so much that I had to share the joy. So, I bought my best friend a set for her birthday. We are both singers, so this system is an expression of our love of music. She's just as enamored with the telephones as I am, especially the freedom of not have to run for reading glasses to be able to see the Caller ID.
Nice Features, Poor Quality [Posted on 2008-02-24] My previous Panasonic cordless lasted ten years without any problems. This 776 unit was purchased new and the base went dead after one month of use. Panasonic only offered to replace with a "re-manufactured" unit.
Disappointment from earlier models. [Posted on 2008-03-17] I own the Panasonic KX-TG5576M 5.8Ghz phone with 2 Panasonic KX-TGA552M 5.8Ghz expansion phone I bought in September of 2005. I liked the phones so much because of their durability and functionality. So when the new replacement model came out the Panasonic KX-TG5776S and the Panasonic KX-TGA571S expansion phone I was excited to buy them as a Christmas present for my in-laws. Then the disappoint; I had to replace the KX-TG5576M base because the handset display that came with it wasn't working. Amazon made this very simply. There is definitely cost cutting go on here. The color screen is awful compared to the older KX-TG5576M, the phones are very light and feel cheaply made. I would be afraid to drop the newer KX-TGA571S compared to the older KX-TG5576M, which by the way can take a beating. Also the speakerphone on med-high to high sounds tinnier and makes the phone seem to vibrate. The call range is still good, it has the same functions and a few more, but I will stick with the older model. I've always liked Panasonic phones I also had their 2.4Ghz phone though I can't remember the model number, before the KX-TG5576M, that you couldn't kill, it been dropped off the roof onto a concrete slap, been dropped in the pool and to this day it still works. I only replaced it because it was interfering with my homes wireless network. To bad Panasonic's new model the KX-TGA571S is a disappointment; I liked your phones in the past but now will have doubts.
Fatal Flaw [Posted on 2008-03-17] I don't know about you, but sometimes I want to be able to get messages, but not have to listen to them as they are being left. Like if I am watching a movie, taking a nap or even just don;t feel like being disturbed. The brain-trust at Panasonic, unlike every other manufacturer on Earth does not take this into account, You can turn the ringer off and you can turn the volume down somewhat but you cannot turn it off meaning that you can either shut the machine off completely or just suffer through those six AM messages from Jo Blo's Carpet Cleaning Company.
Too bad, 'cause there are a lot of admirable features on this
Fun phone [Posted on 2008-04-26] My family really enjoys this phone. I never thought I would use the words enjoy and phone together in the same sentence unless talking about 1-900 numbers :-).
Anyway, the speaker phone feature is excellent and the phone is comfortable when this feature is not being used.
The best feature is the ability to associate audio clips with phone numbers. I associated "Darth Vader's Death March" to my mother in-laws phone number; for the first time ever I now smile every time she calls.
The phone does attempt to say the name of the caller (if you have caller ID). It does an ok job at this.
We do not use the multiple handset/base station feature of the phone.
I would highly recommend this product for its speaker phone alone... add to that the ability to associate music clips with phone numbers and you have a phone that the entire family will enjoy using.
