Runs awesome under VISTA with Virtual PC! [Posted on 2007-04-11] We are actually running Peachtree Permium Accounting 2006 for Manufacturing, but I assume the same applies. Sage indicates that 2006 is not supported for VISTA and that 2007 may be...problem solved: Microsoft Virtual PC.[...]
Peachtree runs better on the new hardware/software config than it did on our previous machine with just XP Pro.

Best in the price range, not for everyone [Posted on 2007-05-01] Having worked for several small companies going back 15 years I have used many accounting software programs, all the way back to Peachtree for DOS. I have also used Quickbooks which is the competitive product, sort of. If you are an accountant Peachtree at this price is the best product available. In addition Sages full line of products allows you to step up to a higher end program(if the need ever arises) with the same look and feel as Peachtree so if your company grows bigger the learning curve in the long run could be less. This version, as it is, does most things programs costing thousands of dollars more will do.
It is definately easiest for those that know accounting. For example, someone mentioned the cost of the Payroll service and how much it is but you can do ALL your payroll for free using the user-maintained tables and tax rates. I find it simple and incredibly functionable and do payroll for free. However, Quickbooks is easier for a novice, I have clients that use quickbooks and even though Peachtree is a better product I would not even mentioning switching because it would be more headache than it's worth. Also, Peachtree is not as forgiving with errors, which is a good thing to me. I will say clents with Quickbooks generally have a complete mess in there file as quickbooks makes it very easy to just do watever you want and I'm amazed what I find in there sometimes. You basically have 2 options in this price range, 1) get Peachtree and take the time to learn it. or 2) If you want an easy out of the box solution just get Quickbooks as it will do what most people want it to do with less learning. Where Peachtree slacks(and makes a 5 start program 4 stars) is customer service is pay after 30 days and the fervor to copy-protect can sometimes make installation a hassle, especially on a network. Also, 2007 is only semi-compatible with Vista and requires a special download though the 2008 version out in June 07 is "Works with Vista" compatible or so they say.
Peachtree is powerful, likely more powerful and harder to learn out of the box than a sole proprietorship would need. If you are a business big enough to have an accountant or bookkeeper on staff Peachtree would likely be something to strongly consider. I personally think it's a great product.
No email for invoices [Posted on 2007-11-03] Have you ever tried to e-mail an invoice to anyone. The application creates a PDF of about 9 or 10 kb, allows you to specify "to" and "from," but then doesn't send anything thing. Also, 9 or 10 kb seems much too small for a PDF invoice.
Other than that, 2007 is a minor improvement over the previous version (2002)I had. Granted, I don't use very many of the features. I actually liked MYOB on my old Mac better.
Also, this application gives you very little ability to modify the appearance of invoices; less than my old MYOB.
Do not pay for this or even accept this product for free [Posted on 2007-12-18] I have never experienced such frustration with a piece of software than that from this product. From the installation taking extremely long, bogging down resources, corrupting other pieces of installed software such as Access and SQL databases running at the same time as the Pervasive software installed with Peachtree, being incompatible with Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition (A great product which my business has used for over ten years and not once been disatisfied), being incompatible with the latest OS that is out at any given time, the most difficult upgrades for taxes (almost impossible in a multi user environment), a built-in backup utility that does not allow you to backup your forms (only ledgers), and having to pay for support that only results in their helpdesk telling me that if I were to purchase Peachtree Premium for both the server and each client (in the multi user environment) or for one single client with their own ledgers that the upgrade would "most likely" perform the repair that the repair function in the software I own isn't able to be successful at. DO NOT BUY. I am sorry for making this purchase and spending the money I have on the original product, an upgrade to Peachtree Complete, the Upgrade with Multi User, and the support plan.
Peachtree premium account for nonprofits [Posted on 2008-02-02] Documentation is so slim that setup tasks are possible only for the simplest arrangements. Setting up sub-accounts, for instance, is not explained. This is true for the setup guide, user's guide, on-screen documentation, and online knowledgebase. I have found answers to only the most rudimentary questions but nothing for most of my questions. Furthermore, support usually takes an hour to connect and is only available Monday through Friday. Have you ever known an accountant whose most important questions come during regular business hours? They work late and on weekends because they need to overcome problems.
During my setup, each key stroke took 3 seconds for Peachtree to accept, although I'm running a dual-core, 64-bit, 2GB system. Overcoming that limitation is the only solution I've gotten so far, but even that took two days and three calls. Now to set up my company, but I've had the software for more than two weeks and I haven't yet been able to complete that.
I'm so frustrated that I've given Sage Software an ultimatum--give me satisfaction (in two days because I'm looking for answers on Saturday) or give me my money back.
