Replaced a Dell DVD Burner that died when the warranty expired. I've read other reviews of this device and agree it is a little loud when running. Might not be good for an office environ... Easy to install and has a unique firmware update tool (Philips Intelligent Agent) that automatically finds the correct firmware for your product. Burns quickly w/o failures and supports more formats than I can comprehend. One thing to note, the photo Amazon is using (as of today) is incorrect. The drive is a standard PC size internal DVD burner. Great price.

Bought this item on amazon, after 43 days of use it started burning coasters nonstop. Stay away.

Noisy but worth it [Posted on 2008-02-09]
It's noisy, especially at high speed (it helps if you secure loose face plates & slot covers). But I've burned almost a 25-disc stack each of DVD-R, DVD+R DL and CD-R, under WinXP Pro, with no trouble from the drive. I've also burned several discs under Fedora Core 7 with no problems, and also saved some discs that were too badly scratched for my DVD and CD players.

I don't know why "A Reader" is burning coasters; maybe a bad sample. But I'm buying a second one, because the first one has worked so well for me.

I have this Philips DVD - RW for almost two months now. I wrote at least 30 DVDs so far and I did not have any problems with it. Reading the reviews (before buying it) I was expecting it would be noisier but it is actually pretty quite. I would recommend this product.
