Great Sound, Poor User Interface & Battery Life [Posted on 2008-04-10] Very good sound is the response from the people I call and same response when using the speakerphone. Weird key response and slow. Difficult menu as one of the other reviewers mentioned. Biggest problem is battery life. Weak 750 mAh batteries. Company help line recommended I cycle the batteries by using them fully and charging them fully for 4-5 times, however I found the battery depletes fairly rapidly. Philips sent me replacement batteries and substituted 650 mAh batteries for the larger ones that the phones came with..duh. Tech. Service not very knowledgeable either. I will probably return the phones, but I find my the time spent dealing with customer service people takes a lot of time and so I keep delaying the return of these just ok phones.
Works, but pressing keys is hard [Posted on 2008-04-20] Product works as advertised. I use it as my VOIP (computer/internet) phone. The keys though are hard to press and don't give very good feel. I wouldn't buy it again.
Absolute Junk - Don't waste your money [Posted on 2008-04-24] This should be 0 stars.
I had the displeasure of owning this phone (it's now in some landfill) for about three weeks. The firmware crashed, the battery life was less than 1 hour on a full charge.
The additional handset was actually worse.
I owned a Philips DECT phone 5 years ago when I lived in London, and that was trash too.
Bitten twice; I won't be buying a Philips phone again, ever.
Not really full-duplex -- cuts off conversations [Posted on 2008-05-02] I purchased these phones having been marginally pleased with previous Philips products. The features are nice, appearance is nice, custom touches are nice. The problem, one that I have noticed with other recent cordless phones, is that the handsets are not really full-duplex (where all conversation participants can speak simultaneously and be heard by all.) What is probably being done is to cut off the people on other phones while you speak on the Philips (and vice versa) in an attempt to reduce noise -- that is that cheap way to do it. Cheap (and sometimes expensive, too) speakerphones work the same way. It isn't normally a problem unless you are talking with someone who speaks softly, particularly on a long-distance call. What can happen is that when you stop talking on the Philips, the person on the other end of the call may be talking away but you never hear them because the Philips phone does not sense that they are talking and leaves them cut-off. The problem is sufficiently severe that I am about the throw them away after having lived with them for several months. This may be a common problem with most cordless phones today, but it is still frustrating. It may not be a problem depending on your usage, but they don't work for me.
Thrilled With This Phone! We Can Hear Again! [Posted on 2008-05-06] We recently ordered the Philips CD4402B/37 DECT 6.0 phones.
We had a Panasonic cordless phone system that we were never really happy with. The most awful thing was that we couldn't hear anyone. Finally, as an act of desperation we decided that a new system was needed (and no, we are not hard of hearing).
It was tough shopping for a new phone. In this day and age of voice mail, why are there so few phones WITHOUT answering machines? Everything I looked at had an answering machine and I did not want to pay for something I would never use.
I have to admit that based on some of the reviews I read on Amazon, I was nervous about ordering this Philips phone. After the horrible sound on the Panasonic, I knew I would not go near their phones again, and so despite some of the negative reviews of the Philips, I decided to give it a try.
I have to admit that I'm thrilled. These are FULL featured phones and very intuitive. The MOST important thing is that the sound is EXCELLENT and as clear as can be.
Why doesn't anyone ever talk about sound fidelity in any of these phone reviews????
I also do not understand the fuss over the usability or features. I think the features easy, the documentation clearly written, and the phones are great.
Not sure what other people are looking for in a telephone ... who cares about features if you can't hear anyone? I am so pleased with the Philips phone. At last we have a great phone that does what phones should do ... allow you to communicate. Plus, as an added bonus, you can't beat the price.
