Good overall telephone [Posted on 2008-03-27] Good phone. Relatively easy to use. Hate the digital delay - but I guess you got to live with it. Semi good range 200 feet from station.
Works good Sounds good. [Posted on 2008-03-29] I purchased a base station and handset combo at a large discount department store. One or the reasons I selected the Philips was because (according to the in store information) I could go to their on-line store and purchase additional handsets. Well, they didn't have any in stock and they made no effort to satisfy this customer by restocking nor did they contact me by email to let me know they were not going to fill my order. ARGH!
Enter Amazon. They had handsets in stock and it shipped immediately. The phone was also the same price as that discount chain. Only difference was that I paid for shipping.
The phone itself? I am happy with the quality and sound. The Philips wireless phone system replaces a Hitachi system that I had for several years. There are a number of ring tones to choose from. The belt clip attachment seems flimsy. But I don't carry the hand set around the house with me or outside when working in the yard anyway. I didn't test the range per se. But the one time I used it outside was a distance of 100ft or so. There was no interference or signal fade. You'll have to read the instructions on how to get the base station to recognize the new handset. Doing so will save you some time (I speak from experience - ha ha). The handset uses rechargeable AA batteries which are included in the box. I've left it off the charger for as long as two days. So fresh batteries will last at least that long.
Good Phone [Posted on 2008-04-03] I have had these phones for a little over a month and I had only one problem, and that was with a set of batteries that came with the single addon phone. This issue was quickly resolved with contacting Philips technical support directly and they had a new set shipped out within a couple days. The phones sound great and I have not had any other issue with them. I believe I have done well in choosing these phones.
Worst Phone Ever, I Guarantee It. [Posted on 2008-04-04] Volume is way way way too low. If you hate yourself or even if you hate those who will one day have to use your phone, than BUY THIS ONE.
Let me tell you about the one I got. Beside being acoustically challenged (Think Mimes), It actually has a really neat feature... At least one time on every phone call it will cut out. But here is where it gets good. Only my side cuts out, I can still here the other party just as low and unintelligible as always. Well, at least until they hang up on me. All the while, I'll be screaming something like "HELLO, HELLO, why can't you here me, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? That sort of thing.
Don't get me wrong, the plastic wrapper the part that actually needs to reach out and touch someone comes in is a very attractive indeed. But then again, I have been told that I am attractive and I don't make a very good phone. Mantel piece, perhaps (lame), phone, try again. I award this phone no points, and my god have mercy on its softly spoken soul.
Take reviews with a grain of salt [Posted on 2008-04-22] First of all, this phone is certainly not the worst phone ever. It could be improved. But overall this is the best cordless I have had in the past 5 years. I have had several Vtech phones (batteries only lasted a few months, similar to the GE phone), a GE phone(the battery only lasted 2 months before I could only stay on the phone for 20 minutes), a Panasonic (insanely low volume and the range was only about 30 ft).
Yes, the shape of this phone is a problem if you want to hold it with your head on your shoulder, but I don't do that anyway, I have a head set.
I have no problem with the volume of this phone, in fact it is much better than most phones I have had. If it's not loud enough for your taste the speaker phone works very well.
Programming the phone is somewhat of a challenge. Phillips could have made it much easier. And even viewing the Caller ID can be bothersome sometimes, but not always. To view who is calling when the phone is ringing is not a problem, but to see who called after it stops ringing involves too many steps(push the cid/up button then push menu/ok) and the way the phone displays the name and number makes no sense to me(sometimes the phone will display "wireless cal" then on the second line the date and time but there is no way to see the phone number).
The buttons on the phone have a slight delay when you push them and they feel soft, but it is not hard to get used.
I have not experienced any static with this phone. My favorite part of this phone, other than the price, is the batteries. They are 4 AAA rechargeable batteries and they really do hold a charge. I have had no problem talking on the phone for several hours at a time almost every day for the past month and a half. If that changes over the next month or so I will update this review.
I have walked outside of my house and halfway down the block with this phone during a conversation and it did not cut out or have any problems.
I am giving this phone 5 stars despite the few flaws because it is just so much better than all the other phones I have had. If Phillips fixes this phone's flaws on the next model it will be the best phone ever.
Bottom line, if you just want a phone that works, and don't mind a few eccentricities, buy this phone. If you want a phone that will only last a couple of months, buy something else.
