No better than a passive antenna [Posted on 2008-07-14] I live in a remote area surrounded by hills about 50 miles away from nearest TV station. TV picture came in grainy on most analog stations and had some pixelation of the digital feed using a regular passive indoor antenna. I tried the Philips to see if the amplification would help. It did not - the signal was no different than a basic antenna that cost a few bucks at a local closeout store.
i got used item [Posted on 2008-07-16] it supposed to new item, but i got used one... amazon sucks... the first time i buy at amazon, n it very dissapointed
Ineffective [Posted on 2008-07-19] Out of 14 available digital signals in this area, this antenna picked up 4. It has been returned.
Dollar Store Rabbit Ears Were Superior [Posted on 2008-07-21] I had high hopes for this antenna - I am only about 15 miles from midtown Manhattan and was looking for better reception with my new converter box than my dollar store rabbit ears which worked prety well.
Well, after playing with this antenna for several days, I can truthfully say that the dollar store rabbit ears were far superior and I returned the antenna, even with it's amplifier and many settings. I got more channels with the cheap rabbit ears without even repositioning them.
Tough to say... [Posted on 2008-07-22] It's hard for me to tell how good this antenna is. I set it up in mu appartment and tried various positions. The only station I could get to come in well was a Spanish Children's Chanel. Unfortunately I don't speak Spanish or have children. Doing further research, I found that from my location I would need a medium sized roof mount antenna. I imagine this would be good if you are in an appartment and have line-of-sight to a nearby transmitter. Otherwise go for a larger rooftop antenna.
