The Speakerphone I've Been Searching For [Posted on 2008-07-10] I've had this phone for a few months now, and it does everything so well that I'm motivated to write this. The phone is really built around the speakerphone functionality. I have NEVER encountered a speaker on a desk phone that has the quality this one has. It is extremely high-fidelity. It also has two mikes, one in front and one in back in case you occasionally want to bring people into your office who sit across the desk from you to participate in conference calls. It also has a mini jack for use of headphone, and the relatively inexpensive Plantronics wireless phone headset works great with it. I have had many phones with speakers which were inadequate, mikes that make you hard to understand by the people you call and had frustrating/unworkable interfaces with headsets-- this does all three of these functions in a SPECTACULAR way.
Outstanding Phone Set [Posted on 2008-09-20] Great home office phone. Speaker quality is good and as well with handset quality. Only minus is caller ID is difficult to read when on the phone.
Speaker hiss [Posted on 2008-09-23] The main speaker for this product is always powered, so there is a constant low level hiss. Polycom was very prompt and sent out a replacement, which had the same problem. In a normal office environment, the hiss will blend into the white noise background.
Superb Voice Quality Full Duplex Conferencing [Posted on 2008-11-03] Almost every conference room in the world uses a Polycom speakerphone. As I work from home I wanted something as good as the one I have in my office. Thanks to Polycom Soundpoint Pro SE-225, I can enjoy same audio quality right at home. This phone is best when used as a speaker phone however you have option to use its handset or attach a headset to its 2.5mm jack. A dedicated button makes it easy to switch between speaker/handset and headset. During conference calls, I hear everyone loud and clear. Most importantly people on the other end feel the same way. With SE-225 I talk naturally and effortlessly - making every call a more productive call. If you have a home office, do yourself a favor buy one; you won't be disappointed. It is a bit expensive but worth every penny.
4 failures and counting [Posted on 2008-12-03] I am now on my 4th Polycom Soundpoint Pro phone since April 2008. If it wasn't for the 1 year warranty, I would have trashed this system a long time ago. It must be geared for the home user and not for business applications as I am on the telephone 75% of each day with customers and vendors. I have been very disappointed in the telephones sound quality, performance and features. When you attempt to connect two callers via the conferencing feature, the parties cannot hear each other. There is no backlight for the display which makes it difficult to see and I would expect with the price paid for this phone, Polycom could come up with some sort of LED. When you attempt to use the speaker phone, it is reported as being very poor sound quality and I am frequently asked to pick up the headset. It also has a limited range for increasing the volume for the call. The ultimate failures have occurred when the phone will not disconnect the calls. It leaves the lines open. Tried to trouble shoot but keep getting the same response from customer service that they have not experienced this problem before. I have read on the internet in several places that this same problem has occurred with other users of this particular phone model. The telephone power supply is plugged in to a surge protector that inturn is plugged into a back up power system; so power surges can't be the problem.
