Customer Reviews:

Easy to learn and use, V6 very stable on underpowered XP [Posted on 2008-02-09]
I know that versions 4 & 5 crashed often, so I tried the free download for Corel ULead Video Studio 11 Plus, first. After a frustrating day, I abandoned my project. The Studio 11 Plus editor is a challenge to use. Not intuitive at all.

I downloaded PowerDirector 6 (free version). I picked up how to use the features quickly. I found it easy to experiment with, undo mistakes, and guess how to make edits I wanted without going to the help. I did use the help a few times, and found what I needed quickly.

As for crashing, just the opposite happened. It turned out to be amazingly stable. I loaded PowerDirector 6 on my old (pre-Pentium)XP laptop with only a 23 Gig drive and below standards memory. With Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint running, PowerDirector 6 worked fine. With time, Word and PowerPoint locked up. When PowerDirector 6 ran out of memory, I was able to close a window and regain control. It didn't freeze up. I could keep working, save, as well as exit gracefully. Very few products do that (Microsoft take note.)

If you look at the negative reviews here at Amazon, all have to do with stability. Version 5 was a big problem; is V6? I suggest you download the trial version and test for yourself regardless of the brand. Don't buy any of these video editing packages without trying them on your equipment and without experiencing the user interface. If you don't like the editor, it won't matter that the product is stable. You spend 90% of your time in the editor, right? So make sure you get what you need. Try before you buy.

My experience with PowerDirector 6 has exceeded my expectations. I had fun working on my first project. I'm excited to do more. That's a great outcome and a good deal, in my opinion.

I think its Great with a capital G! [Posted on 2008-02-24]
I have been using the trial versions of about 4 different video editing softwares. This one by far is the easiest to use and has plenty of options. I will agree it is not for the professional because it limits some of your options, for example, I would like to be able to clean up the audio track manually but it has a function that "magically" does it which works ok but Iwould rather have a little more control. Check the system requirements before you buy so you know that you have a computer that is powerful enough, you are dealing with video after all.

The best video/editing software I found [Posted on 2008-03-03]
I tried few well known software before this one, and I was really disappointed. They were all so slow and hard to use. I was really excited by the performance, easy of use and video quality of this software. I highly recommend it to everyone!

excellent and easy to use product [Posted on 2008-04-08]
I used the Pinnacle Studio 10 and I find this one quiker and easier to be used.
It come wit a lot of effects

BIG Headache [Posted on 2008-05-27]
I've been building my own computers for over ten years. This software has proved to be a nightmare for installation. There is no progress bar or menu to let you know what is being done or how near to completion. Terminate the installation early and you'll have one devil of a time trying to get it straightened out. Pray your PC doesn't hiccup in the middle of installation. The first time I installed it I didn't know when it was finished. No alert to having finished installation. When I looked for the icon there was nothing on the desktop, program menu, or task bar. I had to send a shortcut of the EXE to the desk top just to get it going.

I bought this because I was tired of Nero's limitations, and Intervideo constantly crashing, besides not functioning as outlined in the help section. PD6 isn't much better. The GUI is non-intuitive. You may know what editing functions you want, but it is not readily apparent from the tool labels. It throws in default material upon opening that I have yet to figure how to turn off as I don't need the fluff. I spent over a half hour just trying to insert a background photo in the video menu. I wanted to export the video to HDD for later disc burning, but you don't know what you're getting until you're committed. I have yet to create a DVD. Each time my editing was finished when I tried to write to disc it showed way too much material for the disc, even though the same production in Intervideo left room to spare. Even when I reduced the resolution several times it still refused to fit it on the DVD.

Movie producing is awkward, requiring drilling in and out of submenus that take forever to switch because of all the memory consumed in handling the extra material un-needed to produce a simple movie. Converting 120 mins of video into 7-8GB is rediculous. Rapid scrolling in the timeline is about the only useful feature.

The software installs with pieces of this and that, like DivX and SmartSound. And that's about how it works too--like pieces of this and that function thrown together and made to look seamless.

Like today's motor manuals, this one just leads you through pressing buttons without being accurate to the latest release, and not explaining well the function behind a given operation. The comparison review had this rated the highest, and I thought paying good money would solve my video editing snags. Instead I can get far more done quickly with Microsoft's movie editor or with Nero. At least with my other software I can get a disk written without arguing with how much DVD space it should actually consume.

I'll probably have to wipe the boot disk and re-install my OS to get everything back to normal. But even if I get it to install properly after that, it is money wasted, and time lost. Don't waste your time & money as I have.
