Mitch Rapp Rocks! [Posted on 2008-08-21]
I've read all of Flynn's Mitch Rapp thrillers and they are excellent. They are gritty, real-life characters that tell it like it is. As a fellow author of thrillers, I appreciate his attention to detail and his exhaustive research. He teaches me how to write the genre. If you're concerned about Iran's nuclear threat, then you'll love this novel!

Mitch Rapp on the Warpath Again [Posted on 2008-08-25]
Fete of Death
I found the first half of "Protect and Defend" slow going--with the exception of the beginning sequence which starts out with a bang in the Isfahan nuclear facility in Iran's second-largest city.

Then the story lags and doesn't pick up till CIA director Irene Kennedy is kidnaped as she's on a mission in Iran. With that the action thunders along hell-for-leather with Mitch Rapp pulling out all the stops to free her from her sadistic captors. Rapp kills and tortures anyone who gets in his way when he attempts to save her from being tortured herself.

Vince Flynn has done his research to a fare-thee-well and his sources seem reliable. If anything, the book may be a little too bogged down with research for its own good and might have been a more fast-paced thriller had it been pared down and streamlined.

Another Rapp Thriller [Posted on 2008-09-02]
Reading Flynn's Mitch Rapp books always heartens me, because I hope our government has a couple of Mitch Flynn types out there who cut through the B.S. and take down the bad guys. And I suspect we do. I found this book one of Flynn's best efforts, one which did not strain credulity too much, like so many spy thrillers do. As usual with a Mitch Rapp book, once you start you can't put it down. The plot is straightforward, laced with fascinating information on our military/intelligence resources, and although the characters are almost caricatures, they work in this book at least. All in all, it's a good, quick read.

Get Out of the Way [Posted on 2008-09-07]
Vince Flynn continues to feed readers' fantasies by having Mitch Rapp make decisions (or force those with the highest authority to make decisions rather than seek the easy way out), by pointing out how power corrupts among those who serve high officials, by making terrorists a real threat to our nation and not merely a group that "needs to be understood," and by seeking retribution against those human beings who are truly evil. The episodes revolving around Director Irene Kennedy are especially exciting. I gave it four stars because I liked CONSENT TO KILL AND ACT OF TREASON even better.
