Customer Reviews:

Less Intuitive than I Expected [Posted on 2006-09-22]
I have used TurboTax and been impressed with the way that it walks you through something that is fairly complicated and foreign to the average person. I trusted the Intuit name and expected a similar experience from QuickBooks Simple start, but was quite disappointed.

I am a consultant, just myself involved with my company, and no physical inventory. I wanted some outside help (in the form of this software) to guide me in making sure I was doing the right thing with bookkeeping. I figured it was pretty simple, I was just bringing in money from a couple of contracts that I had, and spending money on some software products for the business, including QuickBooks.

The first thing I did was try to list QuickBooks as an expense. I was asked if it was cash or credit card, and I selected credit card. I was then told I needed to set up my credit card. The phrasing made it seem that I needed to enter my credit card information, when I really just needed a couple of pieces of information and not the credit card number. The next frustration came at trying to categorize the software. Miscellaneous Office? Office Supplies? The help was of no help, even the index. Other online sources suggested I may need to depreciate my purchase.

Frankly, I had expected better from Intuit. Right now I could be getting the same utility from just using Excel to keep track of my expenses, as I don't think QuickBooks will give me the help I need.

VERY Simple to Use [Posted on 2006-10-09]
I recently left Corporate America and set up a consulting practice which required balancing my own books instead of relying on the Finance group. I looked over several offerings and decided I only needed to track billings and create invoices. QuickBooks Simple Start handles these tasks quite well in addition to providing useful reports on outstanding invoices, sales by customer and a host of other great cuts at the data. I do agree with other reviewers that expensing of business supplies is not that well done and I couldn't figure out a way to depreciate a computer and software that I bought for the business. On the positive side, it is very simple to use and given the limited transactions avialable pretty much forces you to do it right. Overall I would purchase this product again given it's low cost and ability to meet my basic needs of keeping the books for my small business.

Does the trick [Posted on 2006-11-10]
QuickBooks lives up to it's reputation of being the one-size-fits-all small business book keeping software. It does what you want it to do. I like the feature of being able to easily sent e-mail invoices. If you need the software right away it is just as cheap at the office supply stores.

A good program for a reasonable price [Posted on 2007-02-10]
We've been using this program for our business for about a year now. I find it to be easy to use and a good value for the money. We used it to create invoices for our customers, to keep track of our checkbook, to have easy access to the amount of our sales each month, quarter and for the year and more. I would recommend it for small businesses starting out.

Extremely POOR [Posted on 2007-07-17]
Nothing but problems with it. Quickbooks was no help at all. Support is so limited and totally worthless. Kept locking into an update loop and wouldn't allow me access to my data. Had to continually un-install and re-install.
