Customer Reviews:

WORKS GREAT FOR TIVO [Posted on 2008-04-09]
I made the mistake of buying the RCA Wireless Phone Jack to connect my TIVO downstairs in the living room where I don't have a jack. It did not work. Once I finally re-read what I needed, I bought the RCA Wireless Modem Jack. It works perfectly and I haven't had any problems.

Dish Network and Caller-ID compatible phone extensions [Posted on 2008-04-15]
I'm using the RC930 base unit with two RC930 extensions connected to two ViP622 HD DVRs.

Although Amazon recommends the RC920 extension, DO NOT buy the RC920 extension if you want Caller-ID functionality. Since I couldn't find just an RC930 extension for sale anywhere (even eBay), I bought 2 of these "base unit with extension" packs.

They work as advertised, passing Caller-ID as long as you enable the Caller-ID feature on the satellite receiver.

Installation took less than five minutes in three distinct steps:

1. I plugged in all three devices and connected the phone cords.

2. I pushed the button on the side of the base unit which caused it's green light to power on solid, indicating it was ready to communicate with the extension devices.

Notes: You may have to push that button a couple of times for it to stay on solid, vice blinking. That puts the base unit into a "security programming mode". It will stay in that mode for 5 minutes while you push the button on the side of the extension device(s). After 5 minutes the light goes out, indicating it's no longer in the programming mode. All extensions will have to be programmed during this 5 minutes, or you'll have to start again.

3. I pushed the button once on the side of the each extension device.

Notes: The light should blink once while it synchronizes with the base unit, and then stay on solid for a couple of minutes to let you know the security programming is complete. If the light on the extension is continually blinking after you press the button, it means for whatever reason, the extension can't communicate with the base unit. That's usually caused by old/bad house wiring or interference caused by other electrical devices. I don't know if that happens very often, but I have a lot of electrical devices plugged in and have no problems what so ever.

To recap, plug devices in and connect cables, push the base unit button, and then push the button on the extension. That's all there is to it and you're finished.

Paying for itself [Posted on 2008-05-27]
I purchased this in February after discovering that DISH Network was billing me five extra bucks a month because I didn't have a phone line connected to my DVR. The RC930 was a little less expensive back when I bought it than it is today, but it was well worth the cost. Now DISH doesn't bill me the five bucks and as a bonus I get caller ID info on my TV screen when someone calls. Hookup was straightforward and worked the first time. Highly recommended for caller ID-capable DVRs.

Easy to install and works exactly as described. [Posted on 2008-06-04]
I needed to hook up my Dish PVR in a location where it was going to be difficult and expensive to run a phone line. This worked perfectly.

Take a moment to read the instrustions because they specify the order in which to plug the units in. Don't know if it really matters, but it was a small detail I noticed.

After plugging them in, the configuration was extremely simple. It has worked flawlessly now for over a month. It was exactly what I needed.

Do not buy this piece of junk! [Posted on 2008-06-09]
I bought this yesterday in order to place a fax machine where there is no telephone outlet. I followed all instructions closely and it worked fine for about an hour. Couldn't get it to work again after that. Today called customer support for Audiovox which apparently makes this device. Nice lady on the phone but offered basically sympathy - absolutely no help at all. She started me on a wild goose chase through RCA customer support. I think I called at least seven 800 numbers, transferred multiple times, on hold forever, finally got someone who knew something about the product. Went throught various reset procedures and got it to work - oh, and by the way she said, all kinds or other wireless devices interfere with it such as WiFi, wireless computer networks, portable phones! This time it worked for about an hour again and quit.
I was also told that the product has been discontinued! Why anyone conti nues to sell this piece of junk I do not know. Just let me warn you - do not be a sucker and buy one. It was obviously discontinued for a reason.
