DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK!!!!!!!!! [Posted on 2007-06-17] This thing is such a piece of junk. My 9 year old daughter saved up her own money and bought this and was greatly disappointed. It took hours to "program" this thing and still never worked properly. Eventually, it got to the point where it wouldn't even close. Of course, it wouldn't matter because the thing only comes with about 10 pages to write on and it's glued to the back so the paper cannot be replaced. The quality of the product is really cheap as well. Don't waste your time learning the same lesson my daughter did.
AWESOME! [Posted on 2007-10-13] I actually think this toy is pretty cool.
Here are the reasons I think this is worth your money:
1) It's a fun toy that once you figure out exactly how to work it, is fun to use.
2) I actually didn't have as hard a time setting the password as I did the date and time. One thing you guys should know: the people who said that you just press a button to open it, so anybody can open it ARE WRONG. That is ONE way you could do it. The other way is to set the password.
3) I guess it's fairly sturdy. Mine hasn't broken since I've had it.
4) It has a light inside that while not very bright, is pretty good and can come in handy at night. Also it's voice-activated, which I think is pretty cool!
6) It's got a little secret comparment in there where I keep little notes and other special pieces of paper in. (But that will be our little secret. ;D ) But it may take a little bit of looking around and opening things you'd think you wouldn't be able to open.
5) (I love purple, so I love the look of this. :) ) Even if you don't you'll probably still like the look 'cause it's cute and girly, but not too girly, so it's a cool look.
Now on to the not-so-great parts of it.
1) I've yet to figure out how to set the date or time. That can be frustrating. If I say "Feburary 22", somehow it comes out "Feburary 26" or something other than what I said.
2) Although it hasn't broken on me, the "doors" are rather flimsy, so you have to be careful or the hinges will probably break. Because of this, I'd probably wouldn't reccommend it for anyone under eight.
3) Girl Tech must not believe in having alot of paper! They've only got about twenty sheets in there. But I don't think it would be very hard to get a little pad, and stick it in there, although I've never tried it.
Even though it has some cons, it's still a great toy. Get it! You'll be glad you did!
Disappointed [Posted on 2007-12-10] Wonderful idea, poorly executed. My 6 year old loved this Christmas present last year and still carries it around SCREAMING her password (princess) into it. Once every 100 times, it recognizes the password and opens.
Radica Girl Tech Voice Recognition Password Journal [Posted on 2007-12-30] This was purchased for my daughter, she was a little frustrated trying to program it, and my husband and I were too, she has had this item for about 2 years, and she does like it and still use's it,but not the voice recognition command, she uses it manually.
Waste of Money [Posted on 2008-10-08] I bought this for my little sister and it does not work at all! It never "recognizes" her password and has to be reset every time-which means that anybody can reset it and open it. What 10 year old girl wants to write in a journal that anybody has access to. I thought this would be a really cool way to get her writing, but since it never worked electronically, it wasn't!
