The only thing I didn't like was that it ended. It keeps a high pace from start to finish and wraps up the Ravenor series nicely. Dan Abnett is a great writer and I can visualise the incredible scenes in his stories with ease.

Dan Abnett is one of my favorite Warhammer 40k writers. He continues his great writing in this 3rd novel about Inquisitor Ravenor. His character development and story telling are great and this novel is a great addition to any collection.

I've been following Dan Abnett's work for the Black Library (publisher for Warhammer 40k) for some time now, and the Ravenor trilogy is a natural outgrowth of the Eisenhorn series. Eisenhorn was great. Ravenor is ok. This book works hard to tie up loose threads from the other two. Readers finally see the end of a dread foe. Usually, I'm keen to see what Mr. Abnett has come up with to bring it all together. Though this book had some interesting twists and concepts, I'd have to say it wasn't quite as good as its predecessors. Of course, if you already read the other two, you really sort of have to read this one, don't cha?

If you are already a Ravenor fan, you will love the continuity and a sense of closure this edition offers; if not skip it. I truly had mixed emotions about this book because Dan Abnett is a very entertaining writer, hence he is one of my favorite.
Looking For More Abnett Kool Aid [Posted on 2008-10-30]
I finally finished the third in this series and it was really good. I am now a big fan of Dan and am looking forward to reading his other novels. I held back on 5 stars for the first two novels as i had to see how it all turned out, ie the payoff.
The payoff was well done and bittersweet, just the way I like it.
Sort of a HP Lovecraftian Daemon in the end but as a big lovecraft fan that worked for me. The characters, the red herrings and the twists drove this puppy. Heck, I even felt for the secondary antagonist Mr. Molotoch, by the end of it all..
