Raytek Mini-Temp Thermometer [Posted on 2008-08-26] Great product and using it to measure the temperature on boat trailer bearings after stopping on road trips. Found out I have a general 5 degree differential between each side so now I know which side to keep an eye on in hot weather trips.
Best Performance For The Price [Posted on 2008-09-21] The Raytek MT4 Mini Temp Non-Contact Thermometer Gun with Laser Sighting is the handiest infrared thermometer we have found. After trying several other brands over the past few years, we have found the Raytek to provide results closest to insertion thermometers. We primarily use three of these in our candle making business, but also have two for around the house and in the kitchen. Here are my observations:
* Easy to use and aim with laser targeting (literally point and click)
* Solid design takes a good bit abuse
* Very accurate but takes surface temperature, so liquids should be stirred before reading
Highly recommended!
Useful and fun [Posted on 2008-09-24] This is a very entertaining and useful gadget. I found myself taking temperatures of many different things in the house -- inside the refrigerator and freezer, water boiling in a pot, different places on the television, A/V receiver, and computer. I bought the Raytek to track my tire and brake temperatures after hard driving at different race tracks. It gives me very useful information. Well worth the cost.
Cool geek-toy [Posted on 2008-10-06] This is Alton Brown's fault. I bought the Raytek mainly for cooking, especially for cooking pizza on the grill. My grill's temperature gauge is more of an estimate, so I wanted to be able to measure how hot the pizza stone is before I put a pizza on. The Raytek works well and I've used it for several other purposes beyond its intended service.
Good toy for daily measurements [Posted on 2008-10-25] I bought the MiniTemp to check temperature everywhere when I've to go. In my house attic at day time in September is about 120 degree! I can imagine what is summer temperature in AZ in home attics! Other interesting things are to check my car tire temperature after my work commute and after some mountain drive. I like to know temperature everywhere when I'm going!
