well worth the money [Posted on 2005-05-13] Positives: nearly 360 degree shade coverage lets out 180 watts (3 X 60) of softened lighting (much better than the frosted arc lamp found at a different retailer) which looks very nice aesthetically, but delivers very sharp, direct light. Easy to assemble, foot switch.
Negatives: only one intensity level, but light is versatile since it is very bright but not abrasive. Paper shade is flimsy, what happens when it tears? I guess you just get another lamp. Very nice lamp, highly recommended.
Great lamp [Posted on 2007-03-06] This lamp really brightens my bedroom. It was surprisingly simple to assemble. Great value for the money. The matching table lamp is also very nice!
Beautiful [Posted on 2007-04-13] Ever since I put this in my office, I've gotten at least 4 compliments on its style and the type of light it gives. It is simply perfect and SO worth the price! Oh, and I can't say how much I love the step-button feature that turns the lamp on and off. So easy when I'm walking in or out of my office with arms full.
Great value for money [Posted on 2007-07-18] I was really impressed with how this came flat packed so small, but was really easy to assemble and resulted in a lovely looking lamp. Excellent value for money, would buy again.
Exceeded expectations [Posted on 2008-08-17] For 40 dollars (once you add in shipping costs) it isn't necessarily the cheapest paper lantern on the market, but it's without a doubt the best looking one. A lot easier than I expected to assemble (took 5 minutes), and once I put in three compact fluorescent bulbs, I was shocked at how bright the thing was. Obviously that has more to do with the bulbs than the lamp itself, but this lamp as the potential to brighten a room with a great white light. I was concerned about having the light concentrated in three areas like the display picture shows, but this isn't nearly as noticeable in person. It looks fantastic, has a solid base, and while the lamp itself isn't worth the price tag, I'm more than happy to shell out an extra 10 bucks for a lamp that looks as great as this. I'm considering buying a second one.
The bottom line:
- It's a lantern, so be gentle and don't expect durability (probably a good idea to keep out of houses with children or playful animals.)
- Looks great, and well worth the price, even if it's a tad expensive.
- Goes great with its smaller table-sized counterpart (I bought both, and am very glad I did.)
